Crossbow fasteners-keeping them from oxidation
I hunt in the rain and I have been thinking about treating my fasteners on my crossbow with Froglube CLP. I use Froglube on all of my firearms and have had great success with never having any rust or corrosion issues. It appears that some of the fasteners can begin to rust overtime. Froglube was invented by a former Capt in the Navy Seals to stop corrosion on weapons around salty wet environments.
It works really well. I am just not sure I want to introduce the froglube "mint scent" on my bow even in the smallest applications of screw heads. Whats everyone using?
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to keep these fasteners looking new would be appreciate without a leaving trace scent on the bow. My bows are new and I am a stickler about keeping my bows and weapons clean and rust and scent free.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I wipe on a film of vasoline to the screw heads after each trip out. Seems to work and no scent.

Unless the scent was extremely powerful I don't think it would be any more detectable than your human odor....play the wind and don't get too hung up on scent. Jmho. Replace all your fasteners with stainless and you're done.

Re: Crossbow fasteners-keeping them from oxidation
Does anyone have a "fasteners list" already made up for the different bows? I'd like to upgrade as well. Stainless at least and maybe some torx.paulaboutform wrote:Unless the scent was extremely powerful I don't think it would be any more detectable than your human odor....play the wind and don't get too hung up on scent. Packets of stainless/torx fasteners for specific bows would be great. I'd like to place an order!nchunterkw wrote:Does anyone have a "fasteners list" already made up for the different bows? Sounds like a business opportunity to me. I got mine from Pacific Fasteners in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

Paul do you have the specific sizes you picked up, I know I could take them out and go to fastenal to purchase them. But if you have the sizes that would be perfect.

Re: Crossbow fasteners-keeping them from oxidation
I'm sorry, I don't have the sizes. I just took the ones I needed there. Fastenal is a great option as well. It may be harder to get stainless from them though.cjonesth wrote:Paul do you have the specific sizes you picked up, I know I could take them out and go to fastenal to purchase them. I use WD-40 which works great. It does have a bit of smell but I don't find it's to bad. Just have to be vigilant about drying it out.

I would be all over that! -- even a good list to take to the store would be a great start.

Re: Crossbow fasteners-keeping them from oxidation
Maybe Peter can chime in with the different thread sizes for all the screws?
