Forgive me Steve if you thought I was questioning your ethics. That was not what I meant. The biggest "thrill" for me hunting is having to be careful how I breathe so as not to let the deer hear me. I bought the MLers to challenge my marksmanship skills. Been thinking about selling one of them lately....just got too much $ tied up in them.

I agree with all the accolades the savage comes with minus the price. That being said, I have had similar results with a T/C Encore shooting Blackhorn 209 and Hornady XTP's. velocity is right around the 2100 mark with no fouling what so ever. I have shot 25+ shots at the range during a mornings worth of shooting and every round loads as easy as the first. Overall, great performance for a lot less then the savage.

I had the 10 ml II but ended up selling it. That dang breech plug is a pain to get out. Also NJ doesn't allow for smokeless powder so do to that and the breech plug it went away. It was a great shooter especially with this 45/70 .458 cal 300 gr semi Spitzer barnes origionals :D

have fun

as strange as it seems, where I live you can use a single shot 45/70 during muzzle loading season, so you can get an inexpensive H&R and be done with it and not worry about converting it.

Another option to get away from the dirty fouling you spoke about is to switch to Blackhorn 209 powder which is non corrosive.

Blackhorn 209 is basically smokeless powder with some smoke added to comply with no smokeless powder laws in some states.

I'm shooting 120 grains of 209 out of my Encore with Leupold 2-14x CDS reticle with great accuracy out to 300 yards with Barnes TEZ 295gr. I have shot 80 shots without cleaning in one session at the range. I love the Blackhorn.

120 grains sounds pretty stout and dangerously high, unless you mean 120 volumetric units(by Volume) because 120 weighed grains would be approximately 175 units by volume.

I weigh my Blackhorn with my powder scale and use 70grains(100 units by volume) and use 250gr T-EZ spit fires, very accurate load, I love shooting with my buddy as he spends half his time cleaning his barrel as I keep on shooting lol

Hope you can find one. I'm using vithivouri 120 and Barnes 290 gr T-EZ. Sub one inch groups at 100 yards. Devastating on Deer and Elk. Just use high pressure sabots or you will have problems with accuracy. Savage was , for a while still making them when the had a large enough order, I would call savage and see if that is still the case.
