1st Deer (after 15 years)

Post by tomasw1 »

So after 15 years hunting on and off, I have taken my first deer. Just a doe, nothing special, except to me. After trying shotgun, muzzle loader and bow, i was finally able to get it done with my 2 month old Matrix 380. This year I had the opportunity to hunt late season in a bow-only private preserve and figured a crossbow would be my best bet as these woods are somewhat open. After three outings, a doe stepped into my shooting lane 40 yards away, and the Matrix barked. Honestly, I don't think I could have taken the shot with my vertical bow, but the Matrix is so flat shooting and accurate, I was able to finally "get the stink off me". Thank you everyone for all of the informative posts and of course Excalibur for making such a fine crossbow.

Now that you have "the monkey" off your back the next one will be easier. You obviously love the outdoors to stay with it. Congrats... :)

Does aren't exactly easy pickings! Where do you think those old buck learned their basis on survival! If was hungry, I wouldn't put all of my stock into getting a doe  especially an older one.
You did good, congratulations! :D Now for a turkey with you bow!

...in NJ nevertheless...these deer have that "faggettaboutit" attitude...we see it all of the time...

...some of us that have shot a bunch of deer don't realize how many have just given up the sport in frustration or are still hunting, year after year, with that monkey on their backs....

...you couldn't have done it with a better implement than an Excalibur CB and the "never missing" M380 and the heat seeking torpe"does" that it launches...

...very proud of another Joisean inducted in the Excalibur Hall of Fame...

...as others have said there will be more to come....If you're ever in Northern NJ looking for someone to shoot with at a range PM me...we are a family of 3 all owning the M380's...and a couple of friends saving their pocket change for Excal's also...

...Congratulations!

Man, I thought I had done something by hunting one particular buck for two years, but 15 years just to kill "a" deer really takes the prize.

Congrats on your accomplishment!!!!Image

Let's just hope it doesn't take another 15 to do it again.
