....a lot of great responses on this topic that definitely is cause for thinking...

....I mostly hunt in ground blinds so there is not really an issue of banging or dropping from a treestand...but we can and sometimes trip while walking in to our spots...I don't ever see myself saying, "not a problem let me just reach on back and pull out and pop on my spare an i'm good to go.'' In the truck, maybe....but we also know how messy that gets....

....I do agree with Stan (Strum) that a backup can and does make sense...but like I said, "I ain't given up my Italian lunch with expresso to carry one!!"

galamb wrote:.Do I have "extra optics" in my pack - actually I do. I shoot a reflexive red dot so I do have a back-up, that has been on the bow and dialed in (which should make it "close" if I have to install at some point), plus spare batteries for the scope, flashlight, range finder etc.

Because you know that the biggest buck you will ever see in your life will be standing full broadside, totally un-obstructed @ 15 yards at the exact moment a crucial piece of kit is "down", preventing you from taking a shot

And you think that buck is going to stand there and wait for you to change your scope out? Think again.......
