Advice needed!!100 grain broadhead on a stock 335 quill?????

Post by drkeenan »

I spoke with Excal customer service who explained that the stock quill configuration is 250 grain with a 150 grain field point. I've never used anything but a 100 grain fp or broadhead for my exomax. I have hundreds of dollars of 100 grain broadheads already purchased. I'd appreciate your opinions on using the stock quill with a 100 grain broadhead for deer hunting?? BTW. Excalibur Customer Service says it will be fine.

I will tell you that I was in the same boat and I couldn't get 100's to fly good at all. 125's were good and obviously so were the 150's. Just something about the 100's didn't work for me. Others on here I know have cut them down shorter and they work. Hope this helps.

See how they shoot and group at a target range similar to your typical hunting range.

If they fly fine, shoot them.

If your groups are less than what you would like you always have the option of swapping out the inserts and adding some weight up front.

There are enough inserts out there that you should be able to find something that would fit and adding 30, 40, 50 or more grains up front could be just the ticket with whatever 100 grain broadhead you choose to shoot.
