Chrono ing the Micro
I been working on lighting and think ive hit on something.
I got these LED utility lights from Lowes.($5 each) the pics make it look brighter in my shop than it was.. I turned off the over head fluorescents.
the LEDs cast a very good light on the Chrony eyes. I took 5 shots using 375 gr arrows..had a consistant 334 average.. then I switched to 350 grn arrows 5 shots .. 345 average..
now are these right?..if so my Micro is faster than advertised..took a few more shots and im getting the same thing ..no errors...no crazy off the wall readings . got to go to work so ill fool with it more tomorrow..

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Interesting, both the speeds being registered and your light set up.
Chrony looks like an F4, they don't usually make mistakes, it would either be a total erratic number or an error code if it isn't reading proper.
I like the lights idea, cant help but wonder if a string of led Christmas lights would work too, or if they would fall prey to the 60 cycle hum of A/C as well.

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Your chrony is damn close, 25grs don't make as much difference as some think with speed or the over rated foc. Put a 450 gr arrow thru it and compare. happy testing Stanley

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Any light connected to an AC source is subject to flickering. Even though LED lights run on DC current, they respond very quickly to changes in current so the amount of flicker will depend on how, and how well the AC to DC conversion is done. That will also determine the frequency at which they flicker if they do. So all LEDs are not the same. In general I would say the cheaper you go, the more chance you have of flicker because they will no doubt do the DC rectification as cheaply as possible. And for things like Christmas lights, no one would really care about flicker. Your setup seems OK (because of the consistency), but the only way to know for sure is to repeat your measurements outside on a bright sunny day and compare results. Good luck.

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
I forgot yo mention these run on AAA batteries so I don't think there's any flicker.they cast a very clean light..

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
That might be the ticket right there. Seems good to me. And FWIW I too have seen others posting better than advertised speeds with the Micro. But I am an engineer - so I'd still check it outside probably twice....and then maybe one more time just to be sure.....strum wrote:I forgot yo mention these run on AAA batteries so I don't think there's any flicker.they cast a very clean light..

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
mine was averaging 342 with my lighter arrows , the heavier hunting arrows , which weigh approximately 392 grs +/- a few grains 326 fps. but my chrony is not the best , its old like me.... I am very happy with the Micro's performance.

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Only person I have seen say theirs was slow is Clint. He says his comes in on the slow side on his new chrono. In 320 range I believe he said.
And by the way. He is a new Daddy today. Baby boy.
Congrats Clint.

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Shot my bow under lights like that and I was hitting 304 and 305's consistently and two weeks later I took same bow and was shooting it out side and I was getting 289.5 which was closer to advertised speeds with a 415 grain arrow.

Re: Chrono ing the Micro
Seems low to me. Even using a very conservative 1fps lost for every 3 gr increase I get
415gr-350gr = 65gr
65gr/3gr/fps = 21.67fps (loss)
335fps-21.67 = 313.33fps
415gr-350gr = 65gr
65gr/3gr/fps = 21.67fps (loss)
335fps-21.67 = 313.33fps
