CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
For all of you who use hand climbers, I was wondering how do you hoist up your crossbow? Do you pull it up by the stirrup or do you lay it flat on the ground and pull it up? Just curious, this will be my first year with a crossbow.
Re: CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
either way will work .I've done both. since Im using a thumb hole type now (micro) ill most probably pull from the back of the stock.chilly_willy wrote:For all of you who use hand climbers, I was wondering how do you hoist up your crossbow? Since the thumbhole Excalibur stocks arrived I place the pull up rope through the thumbhole.

Stock first ... I do so without a bolt in it and let it down the same way. Safety first. Also, This way the part of your bow that was made for being in contact with the ground, is what is in contact with the ground first, even if you accidentally let go of the rope.

Re: CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
For ease of use, I cock my bow on the ground. Then I pull it up stock first. I find a safe place against my tree to rest it against, stirup down, slack pull rope (but not too slack to enable bow to fall flat) then climb. It is too easy for the bow to fall or be knocked if it is stirup first on the pull rope.
Another thing is, in my mind, I protect the trigger when pulling it up. A stray branch can not accidently catch the trigger causing an accidental dryfire.

Re: CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
I tie to the stirrup but place the bow flat on the ground. I tie of to my climber while I climb. I make the rope about 20' so I know when I hit the end of the rope I'm the required height.
If you're not part of the solution, you might be part of the problem.

I tie to the stirrup.
Re: CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
i use ladder stands and a climber, i sling it on my back and have a hook on my ladder stands to place it so i can get in the stand, with the climber i have a screwin hook i use to hold my bow till i get settled in. works for me
Re: CrossBows And Hand Climbing TreeStands
I climb with mine in my Third hand Archery bow holder. Probably not a popular answer but I find in very stable.

No flaming here brother! What's gonna screw you up worse in hypothetical fall; landing on you crossbow which is still on the ground or having it on your back as you fall? At least with the latter, there is only 25% chance that you'll land directly on it, as you could land on your back, front or either side.Starvin' Hillbilly wrote:i know i'm going to get FLAMED for this but . . .i get to the tree early, sling it and move up the tree slowly w/ it on my back. i get settled in and pull up my pack w/ arras.
