Funny Monica > I was just re-reading the post of your turkey hunt at the River flats property ... That was a cool day out as well > It was fun to watch from a distance and be able to tell the story later with the aid of pictures !

Here is a recap ...

The birds are well educated to hunters and real spooky because they are hunted hard between two farms ... They proved to be a test today for sure !

Vix had birds gobbling right from set up at 5:00am ... The boss tom was toying around and behind her but wouldn't clear for a shot .

There were multiple birds around > hens / jakes , so she had fun all morning with the calls and waited them out till about 11am ..

I'm watching from about 465 yards away , when I see two bird in the opening ... she text me " two jakes " ... I text back " tastey jakes ! smoke one " !

About 5 mins later > Boom > End Game !

This was the Tom that was up top along the field my truck was parked at ... we saw him and some others at the river flats on the way ouy !
Image

No way Vix was pulling him away from the hen in tow ...
Image

This was the blind set up at a funnel point between two farms ...
Image

This was the view from the blind when the two jakes showed up ...
Image

Soon after the bigger of the two fell to a well placed swarm of # 6 shot !
Image

Big Congrat's Moni ! >> A fun and successfull turkey hunt for sure ! ( sorry for the blurry pictures , I didn't realize how dirty my cameras were till I got home  ) ... but then again > raw field shots are the best in my book !
Image

Good Luck to all that are still chasing turkeys ! ... Only a few days left in our Ontario season !

Great pictures and captions.

Also, the most recent story and pics about the turkey hunt provide a very good lesson in turkey hunting.

You don't need a super duper expensive decoy to outsmart a turkey (still can't get over the >$200 price tag on some of the decoys in the new Cabelas catalog - wow that's crazy).

One cheap hen decoy will do the trick with just one other ingrediant - patience.
I have gotten my biggest toms in the spring in NY after 10 oclock in the morning.
If you are comfortable - a turkey lounger chair or something similar like a low lawn chair is important. Settle in behind your ground blind about 10 yards from the edge of a field and wait. At some point that big tom will show up and boom your patience will pay off.

Yep, that's a walk down memory lane for sure! Love it! The Yote pics are from the first day you drove in to meet me. I remember the excited phone call when you got back home telling me about the close encounter with the yote.

Interesting post!!! Sorry about your hunting buds that pass away.

On a good note it was very interesting to see the original Ecalibur's, never saw them before now. You have lots of good memories. I am glad you shared them with us. I hope to make a few myself.
