Got the monkey off my back!!

Post by strum »

Last season I got my butt handed to me buy more than one smart ole tom.
Ended up with a big fat goose egg as far as turks go..
I have not stopped thinking about my mistakes from the very last day off the season till now. Well this morn I got my redemption!!
Got in my spot this morn, set up, and first gobble was at 7:20 way way off and then all morning I was hearing gobbles all way off.
One time I felt one answered me and I shut up,waited he never showed.
9am I see two hens 80 yards off working away from me. I start messing with them with some light yelps and clucks just to see if I could get em to turn..they would stop and look for a second and move on then as I was messin with them I hear the thunder!! Its the gobble that says ..ok buddy im on my way!!and of course its right be hind me :( so I know that I can get turned to look behind but which side of the tree do I turn? of course I choose the wrong side
so I see em. two of em standing 6 ft tall (seems like) then they are in a race headed to my DSD submissive hen and jake combo. Im screwed ..cant move.. facing the wrong way and then 30 yards out they stop. my jake should have been facing the hen but it had turned and was facing them. im thinking they didn't like the challenge stance it has ..not sure. anyway I make a cluck ..they move faster away..then stop and come back ..then head out again..so I make a purr cluck.. they liked that and stoped again but still didnt want to come in ..I decided I have to get turned around or it over ..so I ease around ..they never see me ..I lost sight of one of em but I can see the others body so I get on him. soon as he stepped out BOOM!! turk down!! I think hes a two year old ..7 1/2" beard 1 1/8" spurs.. he messed up the fan pretty bad flopping so I didn't bother with it..took all morning but man was it fun!!
