18" vs 20" arrows?

Post by BrotherRon »

Got 18" executioner arrows/brass inserts with this Brown Vixen and wondering what kinda results I will get if I go to 20"arrows? I realize it will probably slow it down a little, but what affect would they have on POI and feel? Its already a smooth shooter - would the extra 2" feel even smoother yet? The 18" arrows just barely protrude past the rail into the stirrup. I like the idea of longer arrows anyway for the simple reason that I can't get my foot into the stirrup to uncock it.
I have heard some horror stories about people shooting themselves in the foot.
With my Matrix 310 there is no way I can get my foot into the stirrup when there is an arrow loaded.

Thanks.
Ron.

You might be able to see the diff in accuracy once you get past 60 yds. Weight can always be worked around abit.

So won't really see much difference in accuracy using 2" longer arrows...
Will make me feel a bit safer if I use it for bow hunting and need to uncock it.
How about feel, will they make the Vixen feel any smoother than it already does?

Same arrows will be 18 grains aprox heavier at 20" you will not notice much difference. Just instal a 25 grn heavier field tip on your current setup see iffen you can tell the difference

you wouldn't... but just like a dri-fire it's not intended.
I watched a guy trying to uncock his crossbow one day with an arrow in it, I stopped him before he shot himself in the foot. Thats one reason I like longer arrows. I can't get my foot in the stirrup if I forget to remove the arrow, so I don't have to worry about that. I remember someone on here saying they shot a broadhead through their foot once. Once you squeeze the trigger I don't think you would be able to cock it again with one hand already shoulder high and the other on the trigger.

Spect it would take someone tuff n gritty to pull an arrow on thru their foot after shootin it. Then they could drive on to the hospital n show them the varmit that bit'em

Ron, I knew a fella who put a broadhead clean through his foot. The very thought makes me cringe! I almost did it last November when I shot a Russian Boar from the blind and reloaded for another potential shot. The second shot never happened and went out to find my fallen hog. Came back to the blind and went to unload my M380 and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my foot in the stirrup. My blood turned cold when I saw an arrow still in the stirrup....and not from the thirty below weather. Go with the longer arrows, I'm making up 22 1/2" arrows for my Blackomax.

paulaboutform, that is exactly why I shoot 18" arrows from my M310 and will be getting 20" ones for the Vixen I picked up. As I said, its much like a dry-fire =
you never intend to do it, but if you can get your foot into the stirrup when an arrow is loaded it is alway a possibility of something bad happening.
