Shortening Vixen 2 rail advice

Post by seedycad »

Here in Britain we can't hunt with crossbows, so have to make do with with Target or 3d.Also the powers at B won't let us use cocking aids, so everything has to be done by hand.
I have a vixen 2 that i have been shooting for a couple of years and have spent a great deal of money getting it just right, but due to injury i now struggle to cock it. I could sell it and buy an Apex but i'd get pennies for it.
What i would like to do is to shorten the rail so i can get poundage down to about 100lbs.This is a cheap option and would be carried out by a very good engineer.
Question. How much of the rail should be removed to reduce it to 100lbs? Thanks

I would check with Excalibur before I cut it, but it would have to be shortened about 2" to reduce the draw weight by 50# if you compare what the other models "power stroke" is listed as. (1" = 25# according to the listed specifications)

Its already been done alot here in Blighty but mainly just by 25lbs.Pulling a vixen back 40+ times in a day is a killer.

Putting a sale on it is the only way to be precise. You can get exactly 100# or any other weight you desire.

Check out lower poundage limbs.........I seem to recall some around 90#'s but am not sure if they would work.

The guy to talk to would be Danny Miller in Sardis, Oh at [740] 483-2312....

Hello,If you want I could swap you an Apex rail for your Vixen rail. I have 2 souped up Apex's both of them are joys to shoot all day long at field shoots, though if I go to open shoots I use a vixen or Axiom

Hi Sean, did you get my message? Happy to do a swap if there is anyway of unbluing rail? It would look absolutely hideous on a camo stock and limbs bit like Granny in a mini skirt!

Sean, how did you get your apex to do 245 fps? And with 340 grain bolts?? What fps would you get with a 300 grain bolt?

Shortened my rail but it was longer than a vixen. Makes it about 115lbs with a forward riser. Then I put on a strait riser it makes it about 90lbs. CHEERS!
