Bitzenberger Jig and the Installation of the XB Receiver

Post by amythntr »

....for those of you contemplating converting your Bitz Jig to be able to accept crossbow nocks you will need a separate crossbow receiver which can easily be purchased...

.....Said receiver comes with absolutely no instructions. So if you are like me, you unscrew the one screw holding in the receiver and you are met with a "jack-in-the-box" result of ball bearings, springs and set screws popping and flying all over the place....

.....A call to Bitz and the gentleman said, "Oh yea I get one call a day regarding this!..I think we should included some instructions."  :? (ya think?   )

.....The trick is to unscrew the set screws on the receiver almost all the way out.... turn the unit on its side so the set screws are pointing straight up....unscrew the one screw holding the receiver in its place...and slowly remove the old receiver and insert the CB receiver...be careful because the ball bearing is sitting precariously on top of each spring!

....by doing it this way the ball bearing that sits atop each spring of each set screw will not interfere with the removal and insertion of the receiver...

...then lock your new receiver in place with the nock receiver screw and turn your Jig back over....you would then select the type of fletching you require based upon which set screw which you would screw in....

....this would engage the ball bearing into the indentations on the outside of the receiver that allows for the different fletching types

In the end the person I spoke to said he would send a complete set of set screws, springs and ball bearings....

That sounds great Anthony. Because I use plastic nocks, when I used to use my bitz I just pulled the flat nock and inserted a standard arrow nock, fletched my arrow then switched back to the crossbow nock. Worked great but I still prefer my bolt fletcher.

Very nice Anthony, you are going to be an outstanding arrow maker in the very near future. Don't give up on the Bolt, just practice with it. I use several jigs, and like them all, each one has it's own set of quirks however! 8)

Thanks Dan....someone once said to me, ".... You have sticktoitiveness!".... I took it as a compliment....when I am interested in something or have a passion about something I would agree...

....I have not given up in the bolt... I am using it... I just find that a correctly working Bitz jig has more decisiveness and precision built into it.... Had there been some instructions with either the jig or receiver I think I would have not had the issues I currently have...

..... I know I have come a long way in arrow prep with still a lot to learn but I am getting there... I also find the process very therapeutic which I love....

.... Now why didn't I think of that... Where can I get a regular nock for a .300 ID "arra?"

Anthony, I would look at Bowhunter's Superstore in the aluminum arrow nocks. You should be able to find one there.

I found a nock that worked by rummaging through the pro shop I shot for for years. Just a note, when you use a standard bow nock you'll notice that there's a raised line on the base side of the nock. That line will line up with your cock vein. Mark the shaft with a thin line using something like a fine point Pilot pen so if you have to refletch one vein you'll be lined up properly in your bitz..

I just went through all my old aluminum arrows, and they are glued on two piece nocks, I'm old!

Anthony, "Ghetto" here, If you use alum nocks , take a field point and glue a std nock to it. Screw this rig into the alum nock and fletch. Its Shadetree but works well.

Anthony I have the zenith upgrade on my Bitz which allows me to use the pin nocks for the Gold Tip series 22 carbon shafts(.300 id.). The zenith takes all the slop out of the Bitz and makes a good product even better. If you just want to use a Series 22 nock and bushing you can use the Bitz as is. http://www.zenitharchery.com/home.htm
