XBow Limbs Change with Repeated Shooting

Post by gtj »

With repetitive shooting, do the limbs tire and thus require sight re-adjustments for accuracy?

Seems that the more I shoot say after 15 shots or so, the POI tends to drop and shift to the left.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks

Check the brace height of your string. They can stretch quite a bit for a long time and need to be tightened as needed to maintain accuracy.

The limbs don't fatigue. You may have a bad scope.

All of the above. Start with brace height. Do you have a stringing tool? You should have the string off the bumpers about 1/4"
If that is OK, grab scope and see if it wiggles, if so tighten screws CAREFULLY! They are easily stripped!
If all that checks out, try adjusting scope at 30 yards, see if it holds, if it hits all over the place, scope is shot most likely.

Agreed for all of the above. Check one thing at a time; brace height, loose fasteners (all), limb tiller. If all these are good I'd look at the scope not holding zero because these bows are all inherently accurate.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the informative replies.
Checked out all what was mentioned in the posts.
Did find front screws of the Weaver bracket that mounts to the trigger housing were in fact loose. Everything else seems to check out OK. Blue Loctite snugged them up and let sit overnight.
Put through about 40 shots at varying distances and the elevation problem IMO is solved.
Will have to work on the left windage problem, as it still started shooting to the left. Dead on at 20 yards, 1.0" left at 30 yards and 1.5-2.0" left at 40 yards. Maybe it is my shooting technique.

Glad you found the problem. I personally blue loktight every fastener on the bow. If you're having left right issues you may want to get a level bubble to mount on your riser. I wouldn't be without one and in fact have them on all my bows. If you're a right hand shooter stick it on the left side so you can check your level from a shooting position. Canting your bow will give you left/right issues amplified the further you shoot. I wouldn't be without one. Danny Miller sells them also and they are a peel and stick deal. You can also look for the smallest stick on levels from RV shops. They're about an inch and a half and cost just a few dollars.

Adjust windage at your longest yardage and everything else will tighten up. "Dead on" at 20 yds sometimes isn't.

Put a level on your rail and hang a line to check if your scope is level........

Is it possible that when you are cocking the bow that you are not getting the string centered in the trigger latch. Are you using a cocking rope or cocking bare hand? This condition could throw your arrow off center (left or right) at the target.

Thanks for the excellent idea. I never would have thought about the RV store for those levels. I have several crossbows and that will save me a lot of money.
