one deer is safe this season

Post by wabi »

Looks like one deer on the farm I hunt will be safe this season. The landowner's wife put out a tray of feed on the ground for birds so she could set on the back deck and watch them. The feed would disappear each night? She finally saw why when the culprit showed up one evening before dark.

Now the culprit is a regular diner and even has been named - Lilly!
I took them a bag of apples yesterday to add to the feed, and the landowner put a couple in the food tray today. Lilly showed up well before dark, and decided apples are good to eat.

It would be an easy shot from their rear deck (maybe 20 feet) and Lilly has lost her fear of humans setting on the deck, but it wouldn't be too sporting or set well with the landowner's wife. Looks like Lilly gets a free pass this fall.

The landowner hunts, too, but I'm sure he will have orders to spare Lily along with every other hunter on the farm.
BTW - I did convert him to Excalibur several years ago. He was using a Horton and I let him shoot my Phoenix. He ordered a Phoenix the next day.

Sometimes you just have to leave nature alone and enjoy the beauty of it all.

Wabi, you know every doe that you see in the woods will look just like Lilly. If you kill anything and Lilly quits showing up for meals..???

I think this may have been the same deer last winter.

All the legs are white at the feet, and no other fawn hitting the feeder had those markings. We had a tough stretch of winter and I was unable to keep that feeder filled regularly after mid-december. The other feeder I have there only dumps about 4lbs of corn a day, so she probably went on short rations and lost some weight.

I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, "Son now here's some little something"
And hung a micro on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't mind the 270lbs draw

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
Pitcures of Lily solved my childhood problems
Pictures of Lily helped me feel alright
