Anyone have any experience with the Nikon Aculon Range Finder? Pros or cons?
Re: Nikon Rangefinder
No experience with this range finder. If you go to the Cabelas Website they have a great deal on a Simmons 600 Range Finder/with a pair of Binocculars(10x42) for $114.00.I paid $5 shipping.I think the $5 shipping ended yesterday.I have the Simmons 600 Range Finder and for the price and for bowhunting use I'm very happy.
Re: Nikon Rangefinder
.... Have an old bushnell, a Simmons and a Leupold 1200.... I have found the Simmons to be a piece of crap compared to the other two ...it is very hard to lick on and each time I measure I get different readings... The bushnell is great for bow hunting and locking on to distances.... The Leupold is the cat's meow... Giving ballistic readings angle adjustment from tree stands etc.... I just love it... It is a little pricey but it's a Leupold and it works all the time!
The Nikon Aculon gets very good reviews for its optics and price (169.99)... Seems like it would be a great choice.... Just stay away from a Simmons (imho)...

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
Everybody has an opinion.... Here's mine. My son has a Leupold, i owned a Nikon Pro staff for years without any issues, until last year, when i took my Nikon out and was ranging targets setting up my scope, and my Nikon just died. So for me it's to the computer and research, Well after a few hours we drove to a dick's, i looked at a Bushnell a Nikon, a Leupold, and a Simmons and a Halo. I walked out with the Simmons for 106.00 American dollars. And have been more than satisfied. Used it all this past season 0 issues.. A long way from being crap. Just check out the reviews.. A lot of happy customers.. Including me. My two nickles.. Oh and by the way it has a button you click.. Don't have to lick it at all..SMILE.. Just my humble opinion....

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
As far as my Simmons Range finder,I bought the extended 3 yr warranty for an additional $15.Never got the chance to use it.Been going on almost 6 or 8 yrs. Can't remember for sure.Never had a problem other than replacing the 9 volt battery. Most range finders use round flat batteries.Like I stated in my previous post, you can get the combination range finder and binocular(10x42) for $114.Mine just came today in a nice hard case with cut out foam insert holding the range finder and binocular.
Re: Nikon Rangefinder
Sounds like a hell of a deal to me.....

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
....if someone would like to buy mine I will gladly sell it to them... That is what makes the world go round a difference of opinions... I do not like mine at all... Which prompted me to replace it with a Leupold... Pm me if you would like to buy it... When I get home from vacation I will give you the specifics of the one I have...

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
I own a Nikon Aculon range finder and really like it. Had a Bushnell for about 3 years but it started acting up giving me different reading at the same object everytime I ranged with it from my stand. Anyway bought a Nikon Aculon last year and love it. Used it alot last hunting season, very consistent and clear. In fact I just ordered a new one from Cabelas last night for my son. They have them on sale (camo model) for $149.00 right now. This is in their fall sale catalog. I like the small size as well. Good luck with your decision. I see Cabelas has the Redfield range finder for $ 149.00 online today.

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
...
....couldn't figure out what was so funny....maybe the licking on it is what is causing the poor readings!

Re: Nikon Rangefinder
I have a Nikon Rifle Hunter 550, it's about 8 years-old and I use it a lot. I have only replaced the batteries twice and it's been so long that I forget what they look like! It's reliable and pin-point accurate.
It's a fixed 5x magnification which really sucks for bowhunting yardages and the optical clarity leaves enough to be desired. I bought it to serve two purposes, for bowhunting and black powder season; it's a jack of all trades but master of none.
If I were buying another today, and using it specifically for bow hunting, it would be a Leupold for certain and I'd find one with a much lower magnification, like 1x or 2x.
