Adjustable cheek piece on Matrix 380

Post by kmcdonou »

Researching my first crossbow and was really leaning towards using the HHA Optimizer so I could use a nice rifle scope. Heard that in some instances this addition raises the scope so it is difficult to get a good cheek weld. Matrix 380 says it has an adjustable cheek piece, but haven't heard any comments on it nor have seen pictures that show how adjustable it is. Does it adjust quite high, or rather, high enough to get a good cheek weld with the added height of the Optimizer?

Thanks much.

I saw it here: http://allcrossbows.com/products/Excali ... Package/12

Besides the image itself, midway down on the right is a close-up specifying an adjustable cheek piece.

There are a couple of other ways to go, both are pretty easy. I will try to get a pic or two up later.

I really wish they'd make an adjustable rise for the cheekpieces. I feel like the only OEM Excalibur stock with a high enough cheek piece is the Y25, every other one has me looking straight into the back of the safety when I mount them to my face.

Lucky you ; I had to put a rubber pad on my Y25 to get a decent cheek weld with my skinny face.

I have a new computer and am pretty lost so having diff. posting pics.
On Coltons bow I added wood to factory cheek piece, sanded smooth, then covered with a pc. of veneer. I then painted it black to match the stock. Some of you all may have seen the bow at Boofest.
On my Matrix I added a Kydex adjustable cheek piece. There are several folks sell these on ebay, in different sizes, thicknesses and colors. Someone on forum posted of this project they did a while back.( you can probably do a search) I just copied their idea. Its a pretty easy project, and you then do have an adjustable cheek piece. I'm not quite through with it but think its going to be great! I'll let you know after I've shot it some.
I'll continue to try to post some pics

For a light and inexpensive mod. use a piece of appropriate sized pipe insulation and place it over the cheek piece to raise your cheek weld when using the HHA and if the fits you well then secure it as you wish. Much warmer to the cheek when hunting in the cold.

I use a Voodoo tactical cheek rest on my Micros... It takes a few minutes to figure out how to set it but works great.. and is very comfortable.

I like that cheekrest; much higher than the Allen brand cheekrest that I use now. BTW the smoke effect looks way cool.

Thanks canoe,

also the height of the cheek pad can be trimmed internally to fit "your" face.. Inside of the cheek pad is rolled up foam rubber pad that can be cut down.... Think of it as a big giant fruit roll up..

.. and since it is firm but pliable, it is comfortable.
