Heads up about a seller on Ebay

Post by GrassyKnoll »

Hey guys,
There is a seller on Ebay selling Matrix 380 "Blackout" packages, using the Excalibur pics for his add pic but the bow being delivered inside of the box is not a Carbon Fiber finished bow. It is a completely black painted bow. The riser, limbs, rail, stock are all painted black. So far from what I can gather, the only thing coming in the carbon fiber finish is the cheek plate.

The seller is using the work "Black" in his header description, but shows the "Blackout" as a visual reference. So beware if you are thinking of bidding on one of them over there, ask the seller before you commit to the buy if it is painted all black or does it have the carbon fiber finish.

I know this because there is a guy over on AT who just bought one and received a bow that looks like it was done with a "rattle can". Everything else in the package is fine except for the bow finish..

I emailed the seller, and he is a big seller with a 99.6 approval rating about this and he said to me that yes they are painted black, I explained to him that he is using a picture of a "Blackout" model which designated a certain finish pattern within the Matrix 380 line and he said that he lists them in writing as "black". I then told him again that well there is a difference in what his visual reference is as opposed to his worded description. I also explained that the buyer who might be unaware of such a "just all black" model might be under the impression he is getting the bow pictured in the add. He told me to return it if I'm not happy... Somehow he assumed I was one of several unhappy customers of his. I am not, nor will I be a customer of yours is what I told him.

The sad thing is that he has them for a buy now price and also lists them as auction packages as well and the price at auction end is typically over the $800.00 mark. They are covered my the Excalibur warranty though.. He claims they are a special "run" for him..

In my opinion he can sell them that way but should be very clear in his written description that this is truly not a "Blackout" model as displayed on the Excalibur site or in the Excalibur printed catalog and that this is a "special run" bow for his shop and let the buyer decide if he wants to pay almost full retail for it.

That's why I only buy from David at Wyvern or Danny Miller..

Not sure if it is allowed to name the vendor, so if anyone is bidding on a Matrix 380 Blackout, definitely ask the seller whether or not it is a carbon fiber finish bow..

To the seller's credit though, he does offer a 14 day return policy as long as it is in original condition with the same packing and the buyer pays the return freight..

Just a heads up guys..

BTW: not my pics..

What was not mentioned was the fact that the buyer did contact Excalibur and was told that the Black bows were a special run for the seller and were indeed manufactured by Excalibur and carry the Excalibur warranty.
The buyer received his bow and sold the scope to a member we all know. Then after selling his scope he sort of realized that this bow is not a Blackout Carbon pattern so now he is raising he!! over on AT wanting a full refund. And he will probably get one!!
At $790 shipped I believe he got a good deal as the original wording for the sale stated that it was a Black bow. Go read it on AT.
The seller is Pine Mtn Archery.

Yes, he did contact Excalibur a day or so after receiving the bow.

My issue is that the seller is not being completely transparent in his add by misrepresenting the bow with a "Blackout" version picture with the caption in the pic that even says "380 Blackout", but the buyer receives a completely black bow that most of us don't know even existed.

Also I did mention in my post that the vendor claimed they were a "special run" for his shop and that they carry the Excalibur warranty. I also did mention that the vendor stated a "Black" bow in his header..
However again if the majority of the consumer public are not aware that there is a "BlacK" only version of the Matrix 380, one is to assume that it is a "Blackout" carbon fiber version.
No?

To me it kinda feels like a bait and switch unless stated specifically in the description that these are a "special run all black bow", especially if using a picture of a carbon fiber finished bow, which happens to be "Black" in color somewhat in appearance.

In post # 25 of the buyer he states he won it at $790.00 plus $20.00 shipped, so thats $810.00 out of pocket.

Quote from buyer in post #30: "I just talked to Excalibur and the only blackout 380 they offer is carbon dipped. So these guys have to be painting the bows and selling them as blackouts." on August 17.

His first post was on August 15 when he posted his concern on AT.

In post #66 from the buyer on August 18: Well I just talked to dawn from Excal for the 2nd time and she says it's legit they done a run of the 380s and the 405s that are all black. She apologized from yesterday saying her sales department didn't let her know about these, but she said there are good an all covered under warranty,".

A deal is not a good deal when you pay for something you want as perceived by what is common knowledge and represented in a photo as visual confirmation but then receive something visually different, not physically different but visually different.

To be clear, I do not know the buyer, my issue is the false representation of the vendor. Yeah, I read the word "Black" in the header but again nowhere is there a reference to an "all Black only Matrix 380" online, in print or even in a physical paper catalog in print. Sure the manufacture has the right to make whatever changes they feel or want to a line and probably "No" they do not have to broadcast it worldwide but I feel that a seller has the responsibility to represent the product that they are selling to the general public. I'm sure Pm knew they were receiving an "all Black" bow from Excalibur but chose to use a stock photo to depict the bow which is not a true representation of what they are selling or that the buyer is receiving..

Yes the buyer sold the scope, but I'm not sure he is asking for a full refund. I think he asked at first to exchange the bow for the proper one he though he was buying. Minus the scope.

Unreal!! How can Excalibur allow this? I just checked it out on Flea bay,And there it is...Got to be a law for this? It does say black bow and not carbon fiber, I mean anyone could be fooled in buying one. Its enough to make a person go postal. Still can't understand it......

So every thing is 100% Excalibur, even the stock and limbs? And in stead of the carbon fiber stock on the Blackout, you are getting a regular Excalibur stock like on all the Matrix series besides the carbon fiber 380, painted black? I still just can't get how ? It surly needs to be displayed as what it is. Excalibur??? is it about the money??....

Thanks for the heads-up!
I looked on eBay and saw several auctions for the bow. I am the leading bidder on one right now, and if I win it for $200 I don't care what color it is!

Well, while looking in the "Item specifics" section of the Pm auction the "MPN" code for the "Black" bow is 3800blk....

"UPC" code: "does not apply"....

Looking at four other sellers adds for the matrix 380 "Blackout" the "MPN" code is 3900. No color distinction after the #'s..

"UPC" code:626192039002

So... I guess if one bids on a Matrix 380 and wanting a Carbon Fiber finish make sure that the "MPN" code says 3900.

MPN code 3800blk = completely black Matrix 380

MPN code 3900 = Carbon Fiber finished Matrix 380. UPC code 626192039002

The other sellers list the UPC code but not Pm...To me it shows more deception. :(

BTW: I have no way of knowing what that "MPN" stand for but there is a distinction between the two different finishes.

And to be clear, I have no affiliation to anyone of these sellers or that buyer on Ebay..

I do have a thing for honesty and proper representation.. PM should just take their own photo of the "Black" bow and use it for their page instead of a stock photo and all would be fine with their add.. Maybe even list the UPC code if there is one..

Man this has me fired up. lol

Well i can understand you being fired up. I have all the Excaliburs i think i will ever need or desire, but just the thought of buying a 380 blackout, and receiving one painted black instead of a carbon fiber bow, is nut's......

No , All the matrix stocks are molded, they are just plain. Then they get whatever pattern applied. All stocks are the same. Except the carbon fiber ones. They don't dip over a stock that has already been patterned.
