New Matrix 380, what arrows?

Post by R4fan »

I just bought my first crossbow from Wyvern Creations off of eBay, before I found them mentioned here. I got a bare Matrix 380 Mad Max, and will use an Aimpoint Micro for a sight (that I already have) and most likely get a scope later on. My bow should be arriving tomorrow.

So far I am leaning on getting the Black Eagle Executioner arrows from Wyvern:

http://www.wyverncreations.com/index.ph ... cts_id=591

They recommend 20" arrows instead of the 18" (does it matter?) Since they use 100 grain field points, I assume I'm going to be using 100 grain broadheads as well? So far I'm thinking of using Slick Trick broadheads, but I'm having a hard time deciding which version to use.

Any recommendations? I'm looking for accuracy mostly (especially at longer ranges) but still want the "best" one for deer.

If Wyvern sells them I would choose the Black Eagle Zombie Slayer arrows that are 20% stiffer than the Executioner and would compliment the 380 and 405 series favorably. 18" is recommended.

A 92 grain brass insert paired with the ST 100 grain 1 1/8" Magnum is an excellent combo.

Thanks for the info. It looks like they don't sell the Zombie Slayer arrows. Is there any other places I can order these that you guys would recommend?

Thanks, glad to be here. :D

I was drooling over the Micro 335 and the Matrix 380, but almost bought an Axiom. They were $500 locally without tax. I figured for the price difference of getting this over a bare bow, I'd get the better one (plus I'll have it a long time). After seeing numerous reviews and videos of the 380, I was sold. No sales tax and free shipping from Wyvern sealed the deal.

Welcome aboard! :D Ditto on what Normous suggested. I would also add, if they give you an option of extreme helical, such as you get with the Arizona Rim E-Z Fletch Bolt jig and 2" blazers, I would go that route. That's my setup with my M380 and I get 2" groups at 100yards.

Norm & Paul have it Right (as usual!).

Go with what they suggest, and you'll find you're shooting to be almost unbelievable in short order.

Love my 380! Best damn bow I've ever run! Welcome to the Club!

Cheers,

BTW, it'd be great if you finish filling out your profile so we can see where you hail from. You may have some experienced members in your area and it could make it easier to offer help.

R4fan... Welcome aboard the Excalibur forum... We sure appreciate extending our family to the likeminded best crossbow family out there...

.... In order for us to help you better... Why not complete your registration so we know where you hail from...

.... I shoot the 380 and here is my recipe which produces deadly results:

18" zombie slayer which comes in at 9.1 g/inch,
92g brass inserts,
Lumenoks,
2" Blazers,
6" decal Guyz wraps,
Up in the command module 100g spitfire MAXX

These babies work very well out of my Blackout (jelly belly)

I don't see any reason to tinker with an award winning(in my mind ) recipe
