Grizzly shooting some hot speeds!

Post by chuckinator »

Got some pretty hot speeds with my Grizzly bow today. Don't know if it's a freaky bow or others are getting the same speeds. I know Excalibur states 305 fps with a 350 gr. bolt.
I set up my chrono last week. The chronological was about 15 feet from my bench. Shot 3 different bolts with 125 gr field tips; 20" Gold Tip LASER II- avg. 293 fps
Beeman thunderbolt 20" -avg. 295 fps
Excal Diablo - avg. 307 fps

Today I set up the chronological 5 ft. From my bench and obtained the following;
Gold Tip 125 gr pt.-322.4 fps
Gold Tip 100 gr.- 328
Diablo 100 gr tip- 341.5
Beeman 125 gr.- 313.4
I was impressed to say the least.
Scope was sited in with the gold tips 125 gr at 20 yds. Shot at 30 yrds with the Gold Tip 125 gr. Dead On. Diablo were about 2 1/2" high at 20 yds. Didn't shoot them at 30.Beemans were about 1 " high at 20, didn't shoot them at 30
The only variable was the chrono moved 10 ft closer to the bow/bench. Anyone else getting similar results.I

You mentioned the weight of the heads, and the brand of arrows. But you really need to weigh the total arrow. Your bow is advertised to shoot a 350 grain total arrow weight bolt at 305 f.p.s... Without the actual total weight those #'es you mentioned are not helpful in figuring if they are par or sub par. Post their total weight and go from there. For instance my Ibex achieved 312 f.p.s. with a 350 grain arrow. I ended up shooting a 367 grain arrow at around 307 f.p.s. I think you should do as well if not faster speeds.... Good luck.. Oh and five feet is a good distance to set your chronograph at..

I did calibrate the total weights w/o field ptd.
The diablo are 250 gr. As posted by excal
the GTS are 282, and the Beeman are 286 gr.

I'll do some more shooting tomorrow and check again. I'll check the shaft weights on my grain scale when I get home. I'm up northern Az for the summer. But be going to the Valley of heat, Phoenix for a couple of dsys. I got the shaft weights, inserts, fletching, and knock weights from mfg to compile total wt. Maybe it's just a hit shooter lol

And I think it'll be faster in Northern AZ cause you up where the air is thin at 6k to 8k elevation.

Chronograph should be one arrow length in of the bow. That is some smoke coming off the Grizzly there. That is my next Excalibur Crossbow.

What is the distance from the string to the riser, picked mine up assembled by the dealer and measured it to be 1.5 inches. Guessing the extra half inch off the riser will give it a little more speed? opinions?

Apologize it's taken me a while to get back here. Been off the grid for awhile. The unusually high speeds I chronographed and posted with my Grizzly are incorrect. I'm using the Shooting Chrony f-1. Apparently I did not have the chrony op completely flat so the distance between the 2 eyes was shortened resulting in higher speeds. Thought something was wrong. Dam it though, thought I had a freaky speed demon! I apologize for the error.my speeds are not too bad though. The Gold Tip Laser ll with 125 gr field tip avg. 293.5
The Diablo with 125 gr F.T. avg. 307.1
My brace height is at 1 inch and approx. 1/8 in off of my baby bumpers.
