Trail Cam Pics - Jacked up racks

Post by DuckHunt »

As I mentioned in another post, I had photos of one of the bigger bucks in my area from back in June that showed some issue with his right main beam. It was bent down for some reason. The left appeared fine. Here are those pics.

Well, today I checked my cams and have more pictures of him. His rack has filled out and it looks a bit odd.

It is a bit disappointing to have a lost season antler wise for this buck. He would have been a great buck if the right side matched. Well, it only got worse as a scrolled through the pictures because an ever bigger buck has a similar issue. This one has problems on his left side.

His right side is a nice 5. Its a shame the left is a jacked up 3.

When a Bucks rack on one side is deformed the majority of the time the buck has injured his foot and or leg on the opposite side of the deformity. Check out your first and last photo , You can clearly see the injurys . Mike

Mike is correct on injury issue. My old eyes can't see the injury. If the deer whacks his antler while still in early velvet, that can also cause the rack to deform.

With so many with deformed racks I'd bet that there was a storm with high winds or something while the bucks racks were forming and soft. Some are pretty neat looking :D
