BEST MECHANICAL BROADHEADS

Post by frontsite »

What are the best mechanical broadheads for super fast shooting bows like the 405 or 380, that rarely if ever come open in flight? (besides Excalibur X-Act)

Sorry, could not resist. I would use something with an "o" ring type securing system, or dental bands as many use here. The 405 has a lot of thrust, and you do not want to be the tester when you're pulling the trigger on a trophy. I would humbly ask you to consider the many great fixed heads available first with that hog of a bow, and if you cannot get the accuracy you like, then look to mechanical heads. JMHO!
Good luck, and happy hunting. 8)

My favorite in order
1. FOC
2. Swhackers

Best is a personal thing kind of like what you have the most faith in.

Good luck

X2.

Get a set of Muxxy Mx4 heads and check the accuracy. I was literally hitting the center of the center of my target at 40 yards, freehand! Mech's work great too, but to be honest, if a fixed is that accurate, why bother with the worry of it opening mid flight?

My grandpa uses only mechanicals and swears by them, so it's a preference thing too...

Personally I do not understand the fascination with mechanicals. I've seen my brother in law stick a number of deer with a certain popular brand. All led to dead deer but from what I saw they were not the best kills. I'm kind of shocked by the number of programs I've watched on the sporting channel where the arrows only penetrate about 1/3-2/3's of the length. As a matter of fact, I've not seen a single pass through with a mechanical in the last 3wks of watching. And with a properly constructed arrow there should be no issue getting a fixed to fly accurately. Which does not mean "same POI as fp's" which really doesn't mean a hill of beans. Do we care if our broadheads hit where fp's do? I think this is an excuse not to waste time/$ shooting an actual broadhead and sighting in with it.
My slick tricks hit 1.5" lower than my fp's (same weight) at 40yds. So I sight in with my broadheads and just compensate when shooting my fp's.

Just my $0.02 and probably zero for added knowledge to this thread, sorry. Off my soapbox.

Hmmmm.. The last deer I shot with a Swacker was at 27 yards and I about gave up on finding the arrow. It turned out to be right where I thought it should be but was almost buried up to the nock in the dirt. I have killed a lot of deer over the past 50 or so years with a bow with both fixed and mechanical heads and I can't say one penetrates better than the other. I have had both not pass through on occasion but for the most part if I make a good hit (DL) I get a pass through with either.

I shoot both. Have always preferred mach over fixed for deer hunting (Swhacker's and n.ap. ) Just seems they bring the deer down sooner. And with the hogs i have all way's used the fixed blades, ( Slick Tricks and Muzzy's ) Because i feel they penetrate best with the tough hide and thicker bone. My reasoning....

I suppose everyone has their favorites on the Mech. n Fixed. We all have had diff expirences usin diff BH's. I have had only one Mech. that didn't open usin crossbows. That was an older Rage BH several yrs ago. Real fast models above 365 fps, i would band the Spitfires n double band the Swhackers n Hammerheads n others of the same style. Sometimes ppl. have their reasons fer usin or not usin Mech. I like them n i certainly use them. I will report any failures of BH's, i have had a poor showin usin the fixed Toxic 100gr BH, won't ever use them again. Now others that use them like them wid no failures so fer
