easton 2219 magnums for axiom?

Post by Pasidewinder »

I stopped by the local shop today and seen that they got a pile of archery stuff in since the last time I was there.

I picked up 1/2 dozen of the 2219s for $3.99 apiece, they are fletched with 4" BVT vanes. Did I do alright on price? I seen some guys on here talkin about shootin Easton aluminum arrows and doing well with them, figured I'd try them out.

How do the 2219s compare weight wise against the factory firebolts? I'm gonna be getting some time off work here soon ( every other week till the end of the year )so I'm gonna have time to try some different set ups out of my axiom and figured this would be a good place to start.

....if my memory serves me correctly, the Easton 2219's run 13.5g/inch while the Black Eagle Archery Zombies and Executioners run 9.1g/inch...

Just wondering ... Are these cut properly to take flat nocks and fleched far enough up the shaft for X-bow use ? if so just cut to length ( 20" for your Axiom ), add inserts and go for it.... if not, it will take some work to make them X-bow ready.

I shoot 2219s out of my micro and matrix i even add a 73 grain insert up front with a 125 grain spitfire. Your not gonna win a speed contest with them but my 330 isnt a lot faster than your bow. Ive shot thru ribs leg bones and they keep on goin.there actually pretty tough. Yesterday i shot two geese here in pa but lost a few bolts in the hunt . No big deal they dont cost a fortune. Ive been buyin the excalibur brand from woodys there camo instead a grey. There only like 30 buckaroos for 6 of them. Im only a 50 yard n under hunter anyway there perfect at that distance i shoot.you ca t go wrong with them

I shoot a Phoenix (basically the same performance as your Axiom) and I use 2216s.
2219s are a bit heavier, but will work fine. You can cut them down to about 18" without any problems which would get you close to a 20" 2216 weight. (20" 2216 bare shaft = 240gr / 18" 2219 bare shaft = 248.4gr)

I guess I should have said that these were crossbow ready and 20".
99% of my shots while hunting are 30 yds or less, I'm glad these arrows will work for me.

I sight in the crosshair in my scope (Leupold) for 25 yards with my Phoenix, and a "center of the lungs" hold on any deer from 0-30 yards will mean a short blood trail if everything else goes right. (things like an unnoticed tree branch can mess up what looked like a good shot opportunity  )

I can also use the duplex "posts" for 15 & 35 yards, but seldom worry about it in a hunting situation.

You sure can shoot them as I myself have shot a lot of them in my Excal crossbows- I shoot the 2117's that I made up for my crossbow now as both the 20" 2219's and the 2117's are well suited for the 350 min grain weight recommended by Excalibur Crossbows. On my Vixen the Min weight is 325 grains which I am at 377 grains or more with my Bh's and vains.... :D

I shot Easton XX75 2216's cut 20 inchs out of my Exomax with excellent results. Now that I have the 380 Matrix I am shooting them as well with the same great results. I just cut 4 down to 19 inchs from the 20 inch So I am now shooting a 388gr arrow total weight with 100 tip. The 20 inch version are 400 gr including 100gr tip. Very accurate out to 50 yds maybe further, and complete penetration on my black hole target. I buy the shafts and build my own never any issues. inexpensive, tough, accurate...good as it gets in my opinion.
