Greetings from South Louisiana...

Post by Turkey Ninja »

Hello all, proud owner of a brand spankin' new Matrix 405 here(which I've promptly named "PESTILENCE" ). Been reading as much as possible and educating myself all week on this fine Excal forum and ready to make my first post...

Initially, I only wanted a crossbow to turkey hunt with. Now, I'm really diggin' this thing! I'll probably be leaving the ol' Switchback in the camper some & taking this instead, so I can let the air out of a few LA public land whitetails and as many filthy hogs as I possibly can.

Plans for PESTILENCE include(but are not limited to):
-Immediately swapping the Tact-Zone scope for Nikon Bolt XR or Leupold Crossbones scope. (anyone want to trade or buy it?)
-Changing the stock string to a custom flemish string.
-Getting 1/2 dozen Gold Tip Ballistic Pro bolts (8.5gr/in)which I've configured for overall weight of roughly 426gr. & about 19.8% FOC. Unfortunately, not much info out there about these shafts, but I'm a lifelong GT shooter so I'll give em a shot.
-Broadheads will likely be 125gr. xbow Reapers or xbow Spitfires (chisel tips) with dental bands for added insurance.
-Going to fletch my shafts with Fusion 2.1 vanes and AZ E-Z fletch bolt jig.
-On the fence about getting either the Luminok or the Ignitor flat nocks.

Did I miss anything??? lol. Glad to be here & I welcome any other ideas or suggestions.

Welcome to the Forum, i had a 405 n traded it fer a Micro Nitemare :D Nikon good scope but its not too grand on higher speed model crossbows. A match fer yer 405 would be the Zeiss XB75. Yup i have lot of Stock in Zeiss need to really push them, I seldom hunt wid rifles n anything bigger than a 6.5x55 is wastin powder, :)

Welcome ! I would recommend the Leupold crossbones over the bolt for a xbow of your speed . Bolt works better under 350 fps in my opinion . I own both.

Welcome to the forum. And congrats on your Excalibur crossbow. And that Nikon Scope will be a very nice improvement over the stock scope. Just check out the Nikon Website and there ballistic chart. Get your bow's speed by shooting your arrow you are to be using through a chronograph. Using the total weight of arrow. The chart is very simple to use.Try different 0 points. 20,25, and the yardage and number's will fall into place. Even if you are shooting 350 f.p.s or faster. That's what the chart is all about. It's a very good scope. Good luck...

Sounds like a good start. Understand, and maintain brace height, it is the best tuning tip for paramount accuracy.
Congrats, and welcome aboard.
