A Moosee Hunting we will go- hunt update & photos
Just three days left till we head North. 380 and Morrison long bow packed, just need a little frost 12 hrs north of here. There is eight of us again this year. I have a buddy that I hunted with in Australia making the journey from Oz to hunt with us and another buddy from NJ coming up as well. We have 3 bull and 1 cow tags so lots of tags to fill. We have filled all of our tags for the past 6 yrs straight so hope we can pull it off again. We have 14 days once in camp, last year we filled out by day 5, but always plan 2 weeks in order to get a few perfect days. Hopefully I will have some pictures and stories in early Oct. The journey begins......

.....Is that my Cousin Vinny making the trip with you guys ...he told me he had "something to do" for the next couple of weeks but I just assumed he was busy with "la famiglia"....that bum!
.....Hunt it, sounds like you guys are gonna have a ton of fun as you have in the past...wishing you all the best, fill tags, make memories, have fun and of course report back....

Anthony,
Cousin Angelo from Allamuchy, Vinny's gone to Sicily. Ang will be shooting long bow so we'll see how he holds up to 1000lb's of slobbering, eyes rolling moose. Tends to make a few come unglued, Ang has hunted lots so I'm not worried. Thanks for the well wishes and hope to have a few stories.

Re: A Moosee Hunting we will go
Good luck on the hunt. What WMU you hunting in?
I took a moose 15 or so years back with my recurve - great hunt and stroked that one off the bucket list but not in a rush to do that again with any kind of bow, at least not where we hunt now.
I too am leaving this coming weekend for our moose hunt, but in WMU 25 (Moosonee). Where we go the gun season opens on Saturday and the bow is staying "parked" until we get back - then she comes out for the early bow for deer which opens on the 1st of October.
25 is nothing but swamps and peat bogs with the occasional patch of dry ground here and there - not conducive for bow hunting - the moose "would go" somewhere that you would never recover him from.
The whole hunt is on foot after being dropped off by the train at track side. Love hunting there but Bullwinkle has to go down exactly where he is shot (and you wait until he is accessible to pack out or you have a "no shoot" condition).
I even enjoy the ten hour drive to Cochrane before the the five hour train ride to the base camp.
I wonder what the "non-hunting" population will be doing?

Re: A Moosee Hunting we will go
Graham,
That sounds like a very interesting hunt. You need a few strong backs for that deal. We are in WMU 22 - fly in. We carry all of our moose by hand as well from where they drop to the closest water - canoe. We have found army stretchers to be the ticket. If terrain is real bad you can put 3 or 4 guys on a stretcher, if good 2 guys can handle it. This way no one gets hurt and it is fast once we get hang of it. It now takes us 2 hrs max to get moose skinned, quartered bagged and back to camp. Good luck and have a great hunt!
