Public land - WMU 63-64 Ontario?

Post by Guest »

All,

I was thinking of using friend's cottage near Sharbot Lake in ON as a
base for deer hunt. With all this extra tags available in 63 and 64.
I hunt with a rifle and I also have x-bow which I want to start using.

Any tips on public land access in the area, crown or otherwise?

Thanks,
Leon

Guest, I hunt on about 400acres in 63A, there are hunters tripping over each other in these areas,.... except my land as we keep a close eye out for the odd hunter that gets lost  . If there is public land around I'm sure there will be someone around. Try talking to some farmers in the area maybe they will give you permision. But I'll warn you I tried that before and it seems they would rather the government bail them out ($$$)instead of hunters helping them with the deer.

The zones with the most tags are 63B, 64A and 64B. These areas are primarily private land, and the farmers there are the ones complaining about deer numbers - however very few will give permission to hunters.

What they seem to want is a carte blanche to shoot as many deer as they want for their own use. They aren't concerned about deer overpopulation, they just want to poach.
