What's Your Hunting Arrow Weight?

Post by Drew »

What's everyone's opening day arrow weigh? I'm curious as to the weight range we all use.
Last year I was right around 406gr, 18" ZS, 92gr insert, blazers, Lumenok, and 100gr ST Mag. FOC 18%. I think I was getting 334fps with them and had two pass throughs, no problem.

This year I'll be going heavier, 430-520gr. I'm still in the lab being the mad scientist so I don't have a final number yet.

Drew, I think i was one of the fortunate one's, and got me some limb's with a little extra Zip.. I'm getting 358 F.P.S. with a 385 grain arrow. My son is getting 360 with his M-380 Blackout. He shoots a heavier arrow, with his set up.That was what he got shooting my arrow. To say that brought a smile to my face... Would be a understatement ...Smile.. Oh my arrow is a 17" Spynal Tapp, With a 80 grain brass insert, 2' blazer's , and a plastic nock. With a 125 grain Swhacker.

2216 shaft, aluminum inserts in both ends, Blazer vanes, 100gr points = 400gr (+/-).
Out of my Phoenix with a dacron string I'm guessing somewhere around 285 - 290 fps.
Been using them for about a decade now and never failed to get a pass-through and a short blood trail to follow. (except for when a scope took a crap, but that's not the arrow's fault  )

No longer the latest & greatest - BUT:
It aint broke, and I aint fixin' it!!!!!!!!!!!

I was shooting a Easton aluminum 2216 cut at 20 inchs with plastic nock and Blazers with a 100gr Spitfire which total weighed 400 gr. I just last week cut the same arrows down to 19 inch's so the head will now sit completely behind the foot stirrup. The 19 inch 2216 with 100gr Spitfire weighs 388 gr. May get it chronographed next week.
