Serving

Post by Turkey slayer »

Just got my Excalibur matrix cub the other day an have shot maybe 20 shots out of it an serving is separating no wax on it very little rail lube an checked for burrs an sharp edges non, just wonder if I should get the string reserved or keep shooting it then replace it with a better string ? Other then that I can't complain picked this bow up as a package for 340 an put a shadow zone scope on for 130 with rings . Good deal?

What causes that, Not tied tight enough ? I'm ok with taking it to a local shop to get reserved no major issue just curious about how to maybe prevent it. Too bad crossbow makers couldn't come up with some kind of string loop or hook to latch instead of the string don't even know if that be possible lol I like the cub but the axiom is my favorite so far heavier bow less recoil it seems, but I'm by far no expert. Would purchasing a Boo string be a good ideas for both of my bows ?

Any of the string makers here make exceptional strings. I have bought from almost every string maker on this site that I know of and have not found a bad one yet.

Other than a serving put on too loose, a string without enough twists can allow serving separation.

If you started off with more than 3 or 4 twists, you did no wrong.
There's no reason you should not reserve the string yourself.
Look at the bottom right of this page.

This is a good choice for serving tools.

I ordered my serving material from Danny and just told him I needed a serving tool for it. I told him which serving tool I already had which I had been using for my long bow and he told me I should get a new tool with the heavier duty serving material. He sent me the same tool boo shows in the link, but I didn't have to order from multiple places. He also gave a couple of pointers to make sure I served it correctly.

A local shop is OK is they are very familiar with crossbows and in particular heavy limbed recurve crossbows. I too suggest getting the stuff and doing it yourself. It's pretty easy to learn.

Boo has great video on how to do it, worth watching several times, then give it a try. He has a simple jig drawing as well that would be more than adequate for the job.

My wife took my cub to the pro shop today to get reserved for 20 dollars an can pick it up tomorrow. I will definitely do my own serving for now on. 20 dollars an have to drive back to pick it up is insane , at least to me it is

Another ten dollars and you'd have a custom string.
