I was thinking the same thing. I have an original one in archery version and can stand up and move around in it without hitting the roof.

I hunt from the ground a lot using different ghille suits and a 3 legged stool. One is a "leafy suit" type and the other has what amounts to strings attached to mesh. Both work very well as they are 3D camo. I typically pick a spot and cut some limbs etc. to kind of brush myself in. Let's me be very concealed, yet mobile, and it doesn't freak the deer out like a ground blind will. I can literally walk in and setup where I need to depending on wind, and know I'll be good. Plus it's a super rush drawing them in close like that.

Had one walk 6 ft away from me and then right down my shooting lane totally clueless when they came in from behind me this season.

Go on Cabelas website and purchase one of their leaf/gillie jackets. I purchased one a few years ago and believe me you don't need a treestand if you play the wind. Saturday I passed on a very nice 6 point at 20 yards then he turned and walked back past me at 10 yds while eating acorns. I have had this experience numerous times over the last few years. My point is that as we age or deal with injuries we may have to get creative and hunt differently. That doesn't have to mean any less effective. I still use a treestand but honestly I have just as much success using a crossbow while sitting in a blowdown or a clump of brush with this suit on. Don't risk getting killed or more disabled because we think the only effective method to hunt anymore is from a tree it just isn't true. Good luck.

Okay thanks. I've only been out a couple times, opening day and Saturday for morning hunts. Being since my mother can only deal with my puppy for so long.

But so far I've spooked a couple on the way in, and had what it looked like a small buck rub a tree 40ish yards away. Him I tried to stalk but the wind wasn't in my favour.

I appreciate all your input. Means alot.

Stay on the ground .
If your knee ever gave out while ascending or descending . I would not take a chance .
Agreed...a ground blind would be real comfy and since you are out of sight when in it you could move around some and keep the knee loose. I don`t use a ground blind often but when I do I set it up all nice and comfy like I`m in my living room....need to find me a nice camo recliner!!
