Well after the brutal wind calmed down on Sunday, I sat the old shootin shack at 4:00. Seen a small buck venture in and out of the soybeans. Also a spike decided to lay down about 60 yds away. So there was constant entertainment right away.
Well as it started to come prime time, does were coming otheir the woodwork like rats. Nothin close. There were deer everywhere in this big field. I look out north window, and the little spike horn gets up,inching closer to the blind. I wasn't planning on shooting him, but it was getting "warmer" each step closer..... Now this north window is a skinny vertical window for vertical shooting.....and so is east window

.....so I am literally blind in whole NE corner...I lose sight of little buck as he's goin SE...so I stand up and slooooowly peek out east window...holy smoke!.. Out about 40 yds..the little spike is clicking his horns with a bigger buck...never saw that before...seemed affectionate kinda playful. I kneel down. Slide the back of the office chair around.lay down the old Excal. Damn that seems far in open beans. This was my farthest kill shot for sure! Here we go... 30 yd chevron on the boiler room. The 185 spit a luminoked fire bolt off its golden rail smack dab in the meat market. I heard the distinct sounding "splat" as the spitfire maxx lasered through this fella. What a magical split second

..buck jumped.. race off 40 yds and tumbled...wow what a hunt.. The spike had no idea what happened.and trotted over his body and hung out til I got out of the shootin shack...ended up being a little 8 pt.2 1/2 yr old. I am tickled and geeked rite now!
