Hooks on String Cocking Rope

Post by SummitSitter »

This may be a stupid question...but does it matter which way you attach the hooks (on your string cocking rope) onto your bowsting for cocking your CB?

No. Some people put the open side down and some put the open side up. Either way works fine.

Either way works. But if you put them under, you can see if the hooks engage fully or not. The lesson learned to tell you that was no fun.

I know the most important thing is getting a consistent pull every time you cock the string with the hooks riding along the rail.

Try it yourself but use a fixed broadhead. Don't go crazy and just yank one side. You'll find that you need to try pretty hard to see a noticeable difference at 30/40 yards.

I agree with Boo using the underhook position so that one can see the string engage the hooks 100%. This is most critical when de-cocking your crossbow so that a potential dry fire accident can be prevented.
