CARBON VS ALUMINUM

Post by fredd »

Have question about carbon versus aluminum crossbow bolts. i have firebolts and zombies all weighing in at 277gr and 257gr and the 2117 eastons at 310gr is there a problem shooting the 2117 out of the grizzly or ibex or say the 330.

The 2216s will shoot great out of your bow . I prefer the 2219s there a tad heaver . The real difference is only going to be seen at over 40 yards i dont really shoot a white tail beond that. Everyone has to shoot the latest greatist thing and carbons tougher. I have alluminum arrows n bolts ive refletched 4 times how tough do you need. I know carbon can withstand a brick wall hit but i dont shoot at many brickwalls they taste lousey. Ive found out that the 2216s n 2219s always fly a little better with at least a 125 grain or better head. Plus the penetration of the heavier shaft n head is a bone crusher . I shoot 16.5 inches in my micro and 330 matrix . Good hunting .lbj

You should be fine with 2117s.
I use 2216s currently with my Phoenix. They come in a little under 400 grains cut to 18" with 2" Blazers, aluminum inserts front & rear, & 100gr points.

I switched to Easton 2219 aluminum shafts after I sold my 2012 Equinox and bought my 2013 Matrix 355. I did use the 20 inch Firebolts with my Equinox, but I noticed grooves forming along their shafts from the rail. Plus aluminum shafts are far less expensive than carbon and WOW do they last and last, shot after shot even after they've passed through game.

I had a dozen Easton 2219 Gamegetters on hand from my 1981 Bear Brown Bear round wheel 50% let-off compound bow days, so that's where I started. I had a pro shop cut them down to 18 inches and I fletched them myself with the Arizona Rim EZ Fletch Bolt with 2 inch Bohning Blazer vanes over 3.5 inch wraps. My total arrow weight with point is 470 grains using NAP 170 grain Thunderhead fixed blade broad head. Soon I am making the switch to NAP 170 grain F.O.C. mechanical blade broad heads This heavier arrow doesn't stress my limbs and delivers adequate trajectory to my 30 yard max hunting range and pass through energy for any sized deer.

I started off with the Firebolts and didnt have any thing in particular i didn't like with them but I switched to 2219's and I don't see myself ever going back to carbon. The 2219's are super tough, accurate and cheap. Can't beat that.
