stayed home - it never fails

Post by wabi »

Been hunting several mornings this past week and end up taking pictures of the doe & fawns, squirrels, and birds that are at the feeder about every morning. Nothing to even think about launching an arrow at.
So I woke up before 6:00AM today and decided to just lounge around the house.

You've probably already guessed:

Actually several pics over the past 24 hours of a few new bucks at the feeder. Could be the chasing will heat up soon!

I feel your pain brother. Thursday I hunted my blind in the creek bottom, no luck there. On my walk back to the house jumped a nice doe bedded down 15 yards in front of my blind on top of the ridge. Friday hunted the blind on the ridge didn't see anything except a hawk swoop down a chipmunk, on the the way back to the house saw a doe browsing around under my hang-on stand. Maybe I have too many stands and blinds to choose from. Tried to position each one to play the winds for the day.

I woke up late myself on Sunday. Looked at the temp .....38F. I am sure they were moving. I missed it. Went out for dusk hunt. Not even a squirrel moving about. temp had gotten to mid seventies in some areas.
Wont be able to get back out for a few weeks. Hopefully have better luck.

Was in the stand overlooking the feeder well before daylight this morning. As legal shooting time arrived I slipped a Wac'Em Exit tipped 2216 on the rail of the trusty old Phoenix and was ready for when the big boy arrived.

First the herd of squirrels arrived. I counted 9 at one point.

Then the doves descended from the skies.........

The the blue jays..........

And finally DEER!

Needless to say no shots fired, but it was still a great morning!

The one fawn was the only deer I saw this morning, but I'm heading back this evening.
