2014 Backyard Buck

Post by ko4nrbs »

This buck was taken in my buddy's back yard. About 40 yards from his house. Shot it with his Exocet using 175 Grain Crossbow Slicktricks. The buck was hit in a lung and ran 40 yards before he dropped.

There are several bucks that frequent his back yard. They hop over the barb wire fence to travel through the subdivision. He uses a Ground Blind and a Homemade Buck Decoy. The decoy has a hinged neck so he uses a string to move the buck's head. Very effective he said.

He used a Grunt call to get him in range. A five point and this eight point came over the fence to challenge the decoy The 5 point came first circled the decoy once grunting and stomping his hoofs and then hopped back over the fence. I guess he thought the decoy was too big and bad for him to whip. Shortly after the 8 point came over the fence circled the decoy twice grunting and stomping his hoofs. My buddy shot him at 10 yards when he was between the blind and the decoy.

He forgot and left the decoy out all night and it's leg got torn off and it was tipped over some. They came after it after my buddy went back in the house.

Homemade decoy, grunt call, Ground Blind and one dead buck!!
