Help me mod my 380

Post by Green380 »

Ok finally got my 380 sighted in.
What fun to shoot.
I'd like to do a few of the simple mods I've heard about.
I've read about using shrink wrap on the arrow retaining spring. Any special hints to this or just regular old shrink-wrap?
Wrapping the stirrup, what have you guys used?
Any other simple little mods?
I'm amazed by the change in brace height after only 10 shots. It's a full 1/16 less than when I got it. Still in spec but certainly something to watch.

Paracord on the stirrup and a well made Flemish string will help in reducing noise and vibration.

Custom string with catwhiskers.
Be sure to check arrow (vane) clearance if you wrap the stirrup!

Just put this on my stirrup. I ordered five of them for $6.40 and wrapped the stirrup, arrow retainer, and the skinny park of the thumbhole in the stock just because I had so much extra and still have 1 extra roll. Only really needed three of them to wrap the stirrup. Turned out good but have not shot it yet.
Ordered a set of limbsavers for $10 and stuck them on the limbs. Thought about cat whiskers but decided the speed loss was not worth it. I would need to shoot it next to a stock bow to say if its really made any difference. Considering filling the rail with foam. Stripped and wrapped/reflected the Diablos that came with the bow. Those are the cheap things.
Thinking next year I will upgrade the scope and trigger.

A Claw sling a good scope and a Trigger Tech trigger. Thats it. The more you put on the string and limbs the slower the bow becomes.

X2 on the claw contour sling, quality scope, and tigger tech trigger.

To that I'd add a custom Flemish string, and the. Dip the butt stock in plasti-dip to prevent slipping.

Dr Stirrup db killers for the limbs as well as the db killer bumpers. You need the original R.E.D.S. if you want to put the db killers on your bumpers. I purchased a roll of tennis racket tape from walmart and did my stirrup with that. One roll will do one stirrup  I replaced the stirrup on one of mine with the Dr Stirrup and it works great plus makes it easier to cock. As long as you are upgrading you could get the Dr Stirrup rope cocker as well. I think the Dr Stirrup set up is a great improvement. However, I have not tried the stirrup in winter weather with heavy boots yet. A 40 strand string from 8ptbuk will do a lot to reduce reduce noise and vibration as well. Some people are not big fans of the 40 strand strings, but I don't mind the couple fps loss since they offer a much smoother and quieter shot. I would tell you to get a 40 strand custom Boo string but I don't think he wants any advertising at the moment since he has everything packed away in boxes.

All the Dr Stirrup accessories help. Look at Boo's web site. Lots of good ideas. I also like Air Brakes. Bend up the arrow retainer to where it lightly holds the arrow (with 2 layers of shrink wrap).

Great idea! I thought the buttpad was too slippery myself. I bought some adhesive rubber sheet that you use on handgun grips, but the plasti-dip is probably a lot better.

I just looked, and saw that Plasti-Dip makes camo colors in spray cans. I read some reviews, and it said you need to apply at least 4 coats, with a 1/2 hour drying time between coats. I'll have to pick some up and coat my buttplate and stirrup.

- get the best scope you can afford
- HHA Optimizer
- have Boo do a custom trigger job
- get two Flemish strings
- go to a shop that does spray on truck bed liners and have them spray your stirrup (minus the inside and outside surfaces where the fasteners go)
- zombies with brass inserts and blazers fletched with the Bolt fletcher

....that's all I've got to say.

It won't cost you much to try it but I'm not sure Plasti-dip will be durable enough to use on the stirrup? :)

You're probably right. The truck bed liner sounds like a good idea to try though.

Plasti-dip is plenty tough enough for the stirrup...the "dip" kind that is. The spray stuff is too thin even with many coats and will peel right off.

I'll post pics tonight of my dipped stirrup.

Here is another pic of the buttstock dip.

Thanks for the tip on the plasti-dip. It's very durable stuff. And the best part about it is that if you no longer want it on the bow it peels right off!

I've had it on the chrome bits of my truck since a mo the after I bought it new back in June!
