Grandson kills his 1st deer

Post by Hester0305 »

I took my 2 grandson's hunting this morning, both of them are 8 years old and enjoy the outdoors. We crawled into the blind about 20 minutes before it got daylight and about an hour later we have a button buck come in and then 3 other small deer came in also, my grandson Riley was using my Excal 330 propped up on a Dead Shot Field Pod he was pretty pumped when the deer came in and my other grandson Cameron was excited also and they did a great job of staying pretty still, when they started settling in I started coaching Riley where to aim just like he had practiced and for him not to shoot until the deer was broadside and until I gave him the go ahead. Riley took a steady aim and shot knocking the deer down hitting it high but a follow up finished it off quickly. Riley hollared out I got it paw paw and his smile was priceless, buck fever took over shortly after that and he started shaking and I started smiling because I definitely know that feeling. We dragged the deer to the back yard since we wasn't hunting too far away and went and woke up the rest of the family for a celebration. Those 2 boys helped me skin and quarter up the deer, it was pretty awesome watching how happy they both were even when they were getting bloody. It was a blessing indeed to be able to share those moments with my grandsons, now I have to work to see if I can get my other grandson close enough to close the deal on one.

.....way to go!....Is it me or does it seem this year more youngsters are getting involved in the phenomenal experience of hunting....and Hester your grandson will someday have stories to tell his boys/girls about that very first deer with grandpa!....wow, it just doesn't get any better!
