Can't get in the mood to hunt this year

Post by DaveShooter »

Not to be a downer or want a pitty party. I can't seem to want to hunt this year.
I mean I got 2 great crossbows an have killed my fair share of Deer in the past. Crazy thing is I'm ready to Deer hunt when its the summer months. Then when the season gets here I could care less. Love reading all the stories of folks whom hunt or score here on the forum. Maybe I need a good swift kick to the back side to get some motivation. Seems like a lot of the Deer herds are or have been down the past few seasons as well to. Maybe I am way old before my time. Who knows......

Just come to Canada and we can give you an old fashion case of Canadian Kick Ass. lol. I get like that too with things I enjoy. Sometimes life gets in the way or we get over tired. Sometimes I make excuses to not do the things I like, Then my wife shoves me out the door. Once I get going, I always have a good time.

I'm like that sometimes as well. During the summer months when I'm Bass fishing I want to hunt and there are times during the season when in the stand I want a bait caster in my hands.

I run trail cams all year long, so that helps a bit with me.. It keeps me in the game during the off time and if there are some nice deer on cam, it spurs my motivation.

Also maybe getting new gear can help. Changing up arrows, new scope, bow...

Don't give up on it, life is too short and we cannot go back.. Find inspiration and feed off of it.. :)

I see you are in Ohio, man there are some really nice bruisers coming out of your state...

It's called a slump, I think? Been there but I get over it as the hunting stories start coming out. My hunt area is just so-so and is on Public Land but it's all I have for now. Pretty hard to get excited about hunting there though I have pics on trail cameras of some big Bucks traveling through there. It's a corridor between the lake and a Gas Pipe Line Right-of-Way. The deer seem to be just passing through and not hanging around much.

I have been up in my climbing tree stand when it was 17 deg F questioning my commitment to hunting. When a couple of young does came by I warmed right up.

Good Luck,

When the season is over will you be wishing you had been out hunting more?

If you think the answer might be YES, then get out and hunt while you can.

Nope....what you need is some double lung big buck down therapy!!

Don't sweat it too much, I think we all get that way once in awhile. I missed the first month of the season this year due to work and was pretty bummed. Hadn't even made it out to scout or set up cameras. Finally got my stands up last Sunday and made it out for the first time Friday. Didn't feel much like going but once I got up in the tree and saw a few deer at last light I'm like...Oh ya, game on!! Can't wait to be back in my tree tomorrow night. :)

Right now is the time to get out and be inspired,,, last 4 days I have been seeing a lot of action, and Friday night seen the first shooter of my season. at 10 min. after sundown I watched a good 150+ come out of the back door of the bedroom I setup about 400 yards off of on a travel corridor,,, cut caddy corner across the winter wheat field about 150 yards out when crossed by me,,, Temptation said grunt!!!! but common sense said don't push him, it's early, the next 3 weeks are really gonna get cook'n!!!!

Now if big bucks actin like high school boys, chasin wild women all day and night don't get you motivated,,, well com'n man go enjoy what we live for,,, it will cure what's ail'n you!!!

I get the same way sometimes. What you need is tinkeritis! Every time I feel that way, I do something in the shop to help make me want to go. I make any kind of game call that I know of ( I keep all of my buddies loaded up), I fiddle with bows, make arrows, make tree seats, heck I even flintknapp a little for the selfbow(s) that I make, etc…. Makes me want to go use the stuff that I make. You would be surprised how much that motivates you to get out and go! I just got in from the shop from making an all wood grunt tube just now! I like getting ready for hunting more than I like to hunt really.

I became obsessed with "a" buck last year and actually got burned out, and I wasn't really excited about this season until I got another big buck on game cam and became obsessed again. Wash, rinse, repeat..... 8)

I find getting off the couch and out in the field is the best medicine for nearly all my woes.

You need viagra for huntile difficulty. I don't know what that's like because all I want to do is hunt and I just don't have time for it. Maybe you should talk to your doctor, but beware, I heard it's dangerous for hunts lasting more than 4 hrs.

I went through the same thing a few years ago. What really helped me was buying a game camera. I love pulling the card, taking it home and looking at what is out there. This year I had several very nice bucks and an albino doe on my cam and it has me totally pumped for going out. Watched that albino walk by me yesterday and it was an amazing sight...still waiting for the big bucks however..lol. I am sitting here typing right now kicking myself for not getting up early and heading out to hunt. Family obligations today....don't sweat it your hunting fever will return just need to change things up a little...If I lived in Ohio I would be out hunting my fool butt off with the bucks you guys take down there every year. Good luck.
