Buck of Halloween 2015

Post by Doe Master »

Me and dad/Oldbuck got into the bush good and early . I was sitting with a half hour to spare . We had a south to southwest wind this morning . So I decided to sit the cedar stand and Dad his blind on the edge of some other cedars . The morning began with a nice doe coming from behind me and eventually getting downwind . She blew once or twice and got out of there . The next couple of hours were filled with squirrels pretending to sound like deer . :?
At about 9:30 I radioed dad to see how he was doing and to figure out if we should maybe pull the plug . While talking to him in a whisper I heard a grunt or two . Told Dad what I heard and told him we might be sitting longer . I pulled out my grunt tube to give some grunts back . I guess having half the bushes crap down inside does not make them work very well . So I used my doe call . :) Got a grunt back and then saw a doe walk through my shooting lane . But what saved her life was while looking at her I heard another grunt . When I first saw him I thought his was a small basket rack . Good enough for me !! :)
He walked out at 30 yards I thought . Turned out it was 35 . But the Micro struck !! I watched the Luminock sail through the air straight into his boiler room . :) Radioed Dad with the news . Good thing it takes him a while to get to me . For I was ready to give chase .
He got there and we started the track . He only went a couple of yards before he began to leak . The track was not hard to follow . The buck only went about 75 yards .

We loaded him up on the deer cart and began our slow twist and turn journey .

At first it took us an hour to go 100-200 yards . It hurts when you are going away from the direct path out . :?

Thank goodness Dad had a bottle of water which we rationed .
Image
On the way out I pulled the card on one of the cameras . :)
" It is safe guys the hunter is not here " :D
Image
" These are tasty "
Image
All totalled it took 5 1/2 hours from when I pulled the trigger to loaded in the van . And people dare say it is free meat .
Butcher tomorrow then get ready for Controlled hunt week . :)
Good luck everyone still .

That's a real nice buck Kevin! Did you yell out trick or treat as you pulled the trigger?

That's a tangled mess in there, I can see why it would take a while to get that deer out. :)
