Very Nice Hunt

Post by vixenmaster »

I got into Hang-On stand at dark thirty this mornin. About 6:45am this small Buck comes out in front of me. He jus ambles along pickin up acorns as he moves. Gets right under me 4' front the tree n starts smellin my scent. He turns his head this way n that workin his ears eyes n nose. He is a 4 pt, soon as i saw him i told him he could pass Go wid no problem from me. He hung around 10 - 12 min n finally walked off. I waited til 9:25am let Capt. Morgan down on the ground n then let my pack down. I looked around n here comes a decent Buck out in front of me. I start pullin up Capt. Morgan n i grunt at him twice. I have the Capt. in hands safety flipped off. This pecker wood is in the thick stuff jus lookin fer the other Buck. I have my 30 yd xhair on him n all i can get is his left shoulder n my arrows way 380 gr wid Hellrazor on the business end. Its too light fer shoulder bustin, i never got a clear shot so i let him walk. Hey nice massed 7 pt est. 15" spread a decent shooter in my neck of the woods. It jus wasn't meant to be fer me this mornin. Such is life n he still has his :)

Should have dropped an acorn on the 4pt's head.
Even if you don't shoot (good to let that 7pt pass this morning), it's still fun to get that close!

You made the correct decision letting him walk Mike. Maybe tomorrow that big 9 point will come pay you a visit.

Sounds like a great hunt ! Sometimes it's just not meant to be .

Sounds like a great hunt to me. I have a feeder sling'in corn out in the mornings and the evenings. If I would have known that and Excalibur works better I would just hang one from my stand. Lesson learned :D

Good to hear you had a little action anyway. Hope you get another crack at him soon. :)

Mike,
I think that was the perfect hunt: not complicated by having to recover the deer, gutting, and in your case, processing the deer. Just being there is enjoyable. At our age, just being is enjoyable.

Amen! Respecting these awesome critters is always the *right* thing. And unless you're an iceman, I'm sure the adrenaline rush was just as good - shot or no shot. I love every time I sit out even if it's just chuckling watching the squirrels get ready for winter
