Matrix 330 draws first blood tonight. Victory short lived.

Post by Possum »

15 minutes of legal light left and headed back to the truck heard a deer running in my direction. First came a big doe at a full trot and never slowed down. Just a few seconds latter I heard a deep grunt and a nice fat 8 point buck appears 25 yards away on the doe's trail and stops dead in his tracks quartering towards me. Put the crosshair real tight behind his front leg and sent the lazer II with the 100 grain spitfire on its way. He made it 40 yards straight down into a deep ravine. Dragging him back up that hill he seemed to weigh 600 lbs. That's my buck for the year but I can take unlimited does if I get the opportunity.

My feeling of victory was short lived, after getting my buck skinned & deboned and in the fridge I got in the house and found that my old beagle was getting really bad off and was in a lot of pain. We found an all night animal hospital in the city which was 40 miles away so we loaded him up but by the time we got him there at 2:00 Sunday morning he was almost gone. Turns out he had some tumors internally and was bleeding into his abdomen so we had the vet end his suffering. I've had to have several animals put down and it don't get any easer.
