First buck, a 10 point, taken with an Ibex. Bonus skull cap.

Post by IndianapolisJones »

This is my 2nd deer ever, and first buck. My best friend and hunting buddy just bought some property in southern Indiana a couple months ago. He's glad to see it produce a kill for us already.

My shot placement was not so great, a very high mid-shoulder shot at only about 25 yards. But because I was up in a tree, the downward angle allowed the Spitfire broadhead to basically explode the lung on the far side. He never made a sound, only ran 15 yards, then stopped for about 2 seconds and collapsed into a tree. Never moved a muscle after that.

Took him to a processing plant, and had to cut the antlers quick and dirty under a time constraint. So I had a couple false starts you can see on the skull cap. I've since filled them with Spackle, to be coated on poly after everything dries.

Anyway, thanks to Excalibur for making a fine little synthetic crossbow in the Ibex! It's really something special.

That's a great buck! Congrats. :)

I'd mount the skull cap just the way it is. It looks great with all the little nooks and crannies.

Wow! That's a dandy of a buck, a real beauty! Congratulations! :D ....I'd leave him how he is, looks great. If anything I'd only rub a little mineral oil or linseed oil on the antlers but that's it.
