Help Picking Son Crossbow

Post by TheBig1 »

So my ex tells me that she wants to get my 14 year old son a crossbow. He is about 5'7" and weighs about 220.

Which Excalibur would you recommend? Apparently price isn't too much of an issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Meat, trying them out really isn't an option as our local shop strictly just sells them. Also, to go to Cabela's and deal with their staff is a nightmare.

I'm just wondering what people's opinions would be for a boy his size. Like most of you he'll most likely have it for life so all ideas are welcome.

Matrix 355 or one of the Micros , But sounds like he's going to be a big boy soon ,, Buy him the blackout 380 .. It will take care of any game in North America ,, bear, mouse and deer . I presume he's shot your grizzly a few times ..

Apparently money isn't an issue for my ex. I was thinking about the Micro but I also want something that I can get him a Dr. Stirrup stirrup for. Sounds like everyone is liking the 355.

He will have no problem 380 on down. The 405 might be tough on newbie, but since he will be a newbie, and ADF is a good idea, that makes me lean a bit towards the 380, best equipped for the price. A Grizzly would make an excellent choice too, and will last for many seasons.

Oh I can assure you that an ADF will be added to anything. Heck, I had a dry fire last Sunday, my first. Thank goodness I put an ADF on my Grizzly.

If I was going to buy an Excalibur for one of my sons it would be a Matrix 355. Plenty of power, won't hurt their back, and very reliable.

Why not another grizzly . In all truth hes only 14 why go spend a ton of money generally teenagers are a little harsh on equipment. The grizzly is perfect. I would help you out with some micro limbs but sold them in two minutes on the forum being self centered

The Cabalas brand, I think called the Enforcer ? Made for them
by excalibur is a 370 with ADF and a full Excal. warranty for the same price as their new 355's ...would be another great choice and I do have a 355 as well as a Micro.

355 or 380 would be my choice. The boy will be set for life. :D
Try Lonesome Road Archery in Taylor PA. they sell Excaliburs. They should let him shoot before you buy. (570) 562-0301
Hunters gallery in Hamlin PA. also sells them and may let him shoot some to try.

I've never been there but of course would love for him to shoot it prior to buying but the problem is that Piestraks in Nanticoke undercuts everyone on price. I'd feel bad going there to shoot and try them out and then buying from someone cheaper. :D
