Election Day Buck

Post by MJK »

Election Day afternoon was a hot one in central New Jersey this year. When I walked out the door to head to my stand I almost didn't do because of the temperature. But I figured may as well your already dressed and I hadn't been in that stand for over a week. Walking in I was sweating up a storm thinking this wasn't a good idea. I got to my stand climbed up and hung my wet shirt and cap on a tree limb to dry off and started glassing the woods. My stuff was dry soon so I put everything back on along with a face mask and waited. before long I could hear what sounded like a buck rubbing a tree in the thick brush to my right and so I put my attention in that direction. It sounded like a buck had a doe in there with him and soon he came walking out. Unfortunately he was walking fast and coming from the wrong direction as I don't have many opening for shots on my right from that stand. I had a fox come up that same trail a few weeks earlier and remembered I had a shot though the tree that blocked where the two trails came together so I swung around and put the scope on that hole hoping he would walk into it like that fox had. When he did I let out a grunt and he stopped right in the same place the fox had been and I let him have it. He ran up the trail and back into the thick stuff where I couldn't see him but I heard him crash get up and crash again. I climbed down but couldn't find the bolt or any blood. I tok a quick walk up the trail he took but still didn't see any blood. I knew I hit him heard him go down too so I figured go get my gear, go get the truck and drive around to the other side of the thick stuff and see I can I can see him in there. When I got to the other side As soon as I walked in there he was. He went about 40 yards. He is my widest buck and my third with my Exocet 200. 3 shots three dead bucks.
