Dry fire

Post by dave131 »

Had a dry fire yesterday on my 380 martrix that was caught by the anti dry fire system. Today I noticed a small chip 6/16 long by 1/16 wide on the left limb where it attaches to the bow.
1. could this have been caused by the dry fire, once again the dry fire system worked.
2. Is it still safe to use. It really looks more like a paint chip, the limb is not splintered at all.

Thanks

I do not think they are related that one inch string travel before stopping did not do it in my opinion.

Shoot away. A paint chip will not hurt anything at all.

Sounds like a cosmetic blemish in the finish. You probably just noticed it when you did a careful inspection after the dry-fire attempt.

It could have come that way from the factory. Camo blemishes and imperfections are common around the area where the limbs are held in place. If the bow shoots great and the tiller is good, it's fine.

my guess is that you had that issue before the dry fire. i like to check my limbs as much as possible but during the hunting season sometimes you dont have time to run a cotton ball. pictures would help if you have one. ive seen others talk of Excalibur having a handle on the limb issues.hope as soon as they have a fix they let all us know.

My guess it is a Quality Control problem at the factory that produces the limbs.

In the Power Generation business we had many issues with fiberglass pipe and fiberglass Cooling Tower fan blade failures. There is no room for error especially with Cooling Tower fan blades. Most of the time the Cooling Tower fan blades would delaminate and cause fan vibration or catastrophic failure. The issues were worked out but it cost us down time and replacement costs.

Most of our fiberglass pipe issues were self induced through errors in preparing or applying the epoxy as well as improper curing.

In my opinion what you had would not even be considered a dry fire. My idea of a dry fire is when the bow limbs make a complete cycle all the way forward to precocked position. Such as a complete launch from full cock to resting position with no arrow in place to act as resistance. If we all look hard enough we can find small chips, paint blems, fiberglass blems, etc. but delamination or actual cracks in the glass usually are fairly obvious if they are severe enough to be of a concern. personally from your description I don't think you have anything to be concerned about, sounds like a common paint chip. Thanks everyone for all the info. I did go hunting this morning for about 5 hours and did not notice the chip getting any bigger.I tried to upload a picture but the board quota had been reached and I don't know any other way to put up my pic. I would still like to put up a photo foe you all to see. Will I be able to put it up later or is it that once the quota is reached that's is?

Thanks

Looks like a piece of camo came off. It's nothing, keep shooting. It's also in a good spot, you see how thick the limb is up there.

If it stays like that for the next 100 shots, you're good. If it keeps coming apart then switch limbs.
