We lowered the buck in case it was stretching from being hung and it still slipped straight in and back out. This was the only time I have ever seen the tool tried to be used. We were laughing about the "gay" deer that had to big a butt hole for the tool to grab.
Sounds like he didn't twist the colon up before he pulled it out. In...... twist......you can feel the tension build up when twisting up the colon..........out.........

I am in the old school, keep it simple camp. Use a small Kershaw folder. When working on the back end, I cut around and free things up. I make sure to tie off with a knot using plastic surveyor tape, so it keeps everything together when I pull it out from the front.
My knife has a bright orange handle so I don't have to look for it every time I put it down.

He tried several times and it would not grab. He had already done several deer using the tool with no problems.
