My son scores 1st deer

Post by RexKay »

Had a rare father son trip with my oldest son Brendan on Friday evening. He's a busy 20 yr old entering the real world working many hours tying to make it.
So we take cruise up to the cabin for a little huntin :D .
Friday was windy, but calmed right down in the afternoon. Made the long trek over beans to the old shack. After an hour seen about six or 7 deer way east appox 250yds. They were feeding and doin there thing as I glassed. 1was decent 8pt. They left to the neighboring property to the north.. 15 min later 3 more enter, with one steadily walkin west....and walkin...and the gap went from about 300yds to about 60. Losing light fast I glassed it, not the buck I seen earlier, really getting dark in blind, as I told Brendan "your call bud". At the word "bud",...not 1 millisecond later BOOM!... I say oh crap!! Watch him..watch him....watch where he goes!..as this deer did one heck of a couple dance moves be fore flopping over..
Perfect double lung. Blood blowing all over, out his snout and everything.
Little 6 pt rack, big fat healthy delicious deer!,.. Was pretty good time with my boy!! He needed that. Time away from his mom and the city.

Yup Rex, like Longbow said, every detail of that hunt will stick with him forever. Even more special that it was with you. Both of you with a life treasure.

I was 21 when I got my first and will never forget the look of astonished joy on my father's face when I dragged it back to the cabin. Life got really busy after that and it was another 7 years until I really hunted again.
