Arriving just after legal shooting light I was in no rush to setup as we had some fog out this morning making for a very quiet walk in. With the wind coming out from the SE, I setup my ecaller/decoy about 35 yds out in front and slightly to my left. I got settled in and waited a few minutes before sending out a few howls into the morning air.
I waited a few minutes scanning the area for any movement before screaming out with some dying rabbit sounds. I only planned on doing this one set this morning so wasn’t in a hurry. I did more sitting and watching then screaming out. About 15 minutes into the set as I am sitting there just taking it all in out of the corner of my eye I spot something. I turn my head and there is a coyote 20 yds away from me. She seen me turn my head and didn’t like what she saw so started running off. As I got onto the scope following her, she stopped about 30 yds later (50 yds from me) I immediately took the shot. She did a few death spins before trying to run off but didn’t more than a few yards before falling over for good.
Skinned this one on site…. Oh I should mention I always keep my decoy spinning and have my ecaller playing (very softly) some sort of dying rabbit sound, that way when/if the coyote enters the field they see the decoy and hear the soft dying rabbit sound keeping their eyes off me… At least that’s the plan.
Enjoy the pics….

nice shooting, might reward you with a healthier deer population next season. ive been looking at buying one of those caller/decoys since we have a large population of coyotes in my area and can never get them in closer than 70-80 yds and being bow only (88) that presents a problem. which brand are you using and where did you buy it?
