I've shot every Matrix from the Cub to the 380 (haven't shot the 405 and after cocking the 380 a few times in a row I have no desire to) and if I were to buy any one it would be the Grizzly. It's a joy to cock and shoot for target work and more than enough power for hunting.

Hey Goober, after reading my reply earlier today it sounded kinda sharp. That was not my intention. There is a wealth of information in that search box. I personally have not had any experience with the Grizzly, but I haven't heard anyone speak bad about it either. My apologies if I sounded like a smart arse.

I own the Grizzly, using 150 grain bolt cutter with lumenok nocks. This is the first year I have owned it and took a large doe Christmas Eve. The shot was about 18 yards and went through both lungs exiting the deer and buried in the ground. Seems plenty of power for anything I will hunt in North America. Very happy with the bow.

Ask Justenough here on the forum which model he used to harvest his huge 9 point buck.
I settled for the Cub upgraded with a 28 strand Matrix string from xcaliber Dan.I liked the "all black" look but more importantly the shorter shoulder stock length. The 9 pointer I smoked @ 36 yards quartering away with a Magnus Black Hornet added to my confidence that for me, the Cub is all I need! But just like anything else in this sport and in life,,Different strokes for different folks.I would also add IMHO,,the more power,,the more problems.I wanted something I didn't have to continually be "messin" with.A person can't go wrong with a Cub or Grizzly! Make sure to install a Trigger Tech in it!! :D
Sorry I muffed the spelling Buddy!

I love my grizzly, only the trigger leaves something to be desired. 3 stages of over-travel sponginess.

I've found that after some shooting, probably over 100-150 shots, that will go away.

I was a gun guy too... the Grizzly added another month onto my hunting season so it was a no brainer for 7$ archery permit. I shoot mine 100% stock except for some minor camo wrapping and a Flemish string upgrade. The scope is good enough for hunting and target shooting for fun. Even use the diablo arrows and bolt cutters because it was too close to season for me to do enough reading/research to comfortably vary from the default. Mine's shot several deer this season, and I prefer it to the point that I didn't even get the rifle out of the safe this year. The only problem I had with the crossbow was me. I was not prepared to hunt from 20 yards away. That's what took the most "getting used to" and money. I hunt from the ground so maybe if you're in a tree stand 20' up it's not that big of a concern. After years of shooting deer out of my truck from range while eating a sausage biscuit and drinking a convenience store coffee... slowing things way down, getting brushed in well with good camo, playing the wind, and letting one fly where you can see the whites of the eyes is pretty darn exciting. Sort of took me back to actual hunting and not just killing for meat. Been happy with the power too. Might be a little slow but it keeps me honest and brings my effective range down to where it probably should be regardless.

Do you think the composite rail makes the bow quiter than the aluminum rail bows?

Wow, that is tough to call there. I have owned one with the SMF rail, an Ibex, and could not say one way or another.

I just can't wait to shoot the beast. My only concern is cocking it and uncocking as I have very little muscle to to arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Decocking is tougher because you are using only one arm. Get on eBay and get a discharge target. Should be under $25 delivered.
Good luck, and have fun!

I find it easier to decock and I have a bad rotator cuff in my uncocking arm. Looks scary till you try it but is actually easy to do.
