They both have their merits. Aluminum is harder on the serving, slightly slower, has less noise on the shot, more durable for arrow junkies, harder to ding and to me, looks better.
Some people just like stepping on rakes

I work in the injection mold industry and can personally attest to the strength and durability of modern plastics. The SMF rails are great for sure but I still prefer the aluminum rails...purely my preference though.
Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

Well I prefer the aluminum but not really sure why..lol
I guess old ideas die hard. I have always owned steel guns either handguns and or long guns. However I purchased a Glock 26 about 20 years ago somewhat hesitant at the time to do so because its a "plastic" handgun. I have to say I have carried it through hell and high water and the thing looks as good and functions as good as the day I bought it new. Never had a miss fire or fail to eject ...nothing, so to me why not a plastic xbow rail? The space age plastics today are amazing materials.

Aluminum for me BUT wouldn't it be great if we could adjust the lenghth of it ! We could target shoot during the summer at a short lenghth and in the fall adjust it out longer to increase speed to hunt with ! Dreaming in Va. !!!
