trigger tec maintence

Post by longbow joe »

I have several tts on my bows and am aware the directions say dont lube it. I have my old reliable matrix 330 with a "good" factoty trigger that i left alone . I beat the death out of the bow n get wet n muddy . I clean the claws n blow air in the stock trigger n spray wd 40 as excalibur says n its been great .iv always considered wd 40 more as a solvent rather than a lube what is the difference between lubing an excalibur trigger and a tt trigger . I can see tt not wanting their trigger not wanting to get loaded up with gunk but as someone with a mechanical background its hard to believe a moving thing wouldnt benefit from a little wd 40. I am familiar with the cylinder that helps a tt work n its principals.

I remember watching those older instructional videos by Bill T too. But I remember reading that Boo said WD-40 is no longer recommended for lubing your trigger. They have a new lube inside the trigger housing, (Mos2 I think), and wd40 will displace that or at least dilute it some. Wd40 is not that great of a lube anyway, it's for meant for water displacement.

Wd40 us a good solvent. Derrick is correct it will wash the factory lube out of factory triggers.
TT units are stainless and are a candidate for blowing with compressed air out vs lube.

But unless the TT are a sealed unit, how do you deal with mud and gunk that comes from in-field-use? Grunge like that will contaminate the lube so compressed air wouldn't help.

TT advises agains the use of lubricants.
If you dont add any there wont be any concerns of contamination and compressed air will work just fine

Cool, so the TT triggers are sealed against outside contaminates getting to the factory lubricant?

There is very little factory lube in them. I believe only a dab on pivot points and end of the roller, i could be mistaken though.
They are not sealed.
If you need reassuring shoot Frank an email they answer in a timely fashion, although they are at the Shot Show until the 22nd.

Thanks for your help, newbie. The TT is an upgrade I plan to make so i'm just trying to wrap my head around this particular maintenance aspect.

Flush with lighter fluid wait for a bit. Follow with compressed air. Do not use WD40.
As Per Frank at TT.

I do NOT use any oil in my triggers, just blow them out with compressed air if they get wet. Does Excalibur still sell trigger oil? And why if it's it not recommended?

Lighter fluid is all I have ever used on any trigger of any kind.
