Chrono on a Micro with a Flemish string

Post by Looper21 »

Just wondering if anyone has flipped to a Flemmish string on a Micro 335 and what kind of speed did you gain.
Any other benefits to a flemmish string other than speed as I never have used one before

Just so you're aware, a string isn't faster because it's a Flemish Twist string. The speed a string achieves is primarily from the material used, the number of strands used, weight, and how it's made. That being said, a good Flemish string will have less perceived noise and hand shock. Basically, I find it's a better shooting experience.

Really?? I guess I'll have to setup the Chrony. I would have assumed 335 fps.

Most, if not all of the Micro 335 bows are over Achiever's. It might be the Napoleon Syndrome!  When I had mine I got 339 FPS with 358 grains stock string and 337 with a heavy Flemish String. Liked that setup a lot.

Same here, but never shot that light of arrow other than to see what I got when I first got mine,, 352 grain was 342fps. The flemish got me 337 but that was a 40 strand,, much heavier, and when I went to the 410 grain arrows at 312 fps it was pure honey,,,, very very sweet. No vibration, almost silent shooting and deadly accurate. but the heavy flemish is the way to go!

Perhaps the speed gain you are thinking about was the advertised 10 - 12fps gained from a stock string to a "Fast Flight Flemish" on the older Exo-Series bows. As Paul said, that was not due to string type, but to material type. Back then the stock strings were Dacron. Now the stock strings on the Micro and Matrix are D97, which is a "premium" material - so you don't see the big speed change

Just how far away from the arrow are you placing the Crony? I have mine set 10' away shooting stock quill and 100gr. factory string I was at 326' to 328' moving to Flemish string about the same a tad faster which could be strictly air temp.

At 10 feet you are loosing speed, in fact, you begin to loose speed as soon as it leaves the deck.

I place my crono about an arrows length away.

All I have ever ran thru a chrony from the Micro was some 424 grain arrows I made up for my Matrix, they shot 305. I was kind of disappointed until I realized it was shooting 305 through the same hole!

I have a micro 335 with one of Excaliber Dan's custom flemish strings and have chronoed it with the following numbers: Remember this is from mine and yours could vary some.

15 1/2 Z. S. with 92 gn brass insert, Ignitor nock & 100 gn, f/p total wt. 392---316 fps
15 1/2 Z. S. " " " " " " " " 125 gn, f/p total wt. 415---308fps
15 1/2 Z.S. " " " " " " " " 150 gn. f/p total wt. 441--299fps

17" Z. S. with 92 gn brass insert, ignitor nock, & 100 gn f/p total wt 423 ---303.6fps
17" Z.S. " " " " " " " " 125 gn f/p total wt 448--298 fps
17' Z.S. " " " " " " " " 150 gn f/p total wt 473---291.5 fps

I recently put a 16" quill with a 100 gn tip for a total wt of 353 thru the same chrono with this Micro at 357 fps which blew me away and I'm not sure of that number as I lost my light and could not follow it up with another shot... Will do so when sun and weather allow ( It rains lots here)
